Why do people assume a German Sporting Director wouldn’t know what his G German coach , he appointed, was up to. Southampton delayed the hearing to give them a chance to get their story together and it would have been the Sporting Director heading it. While writing this it has just come up in screen that appeal dismissed.

Well they'd have a problem anyway, I don't drive! So no speed ticket or Lambo. I should be so lucky, if I could afford a Lambo, a speed ticket would be very small beer indeed. I could always probably sell it on to Tonda Eckert, he might need to be making a speedy get away soon :)
| Tonda saying he didn't know the rules on 08:52 - May 21 with 1603 views | soupytwist | It's possible that someone doesn't know that spying is against the rules yet still not want the fact they're doing it to be discovered. If Town or anyone else suspected that they were being filmed by a future opponent someone would probably approach the person they suspected of doing it and at least ask what they were doing. And probably then tell them to sling their hook. If said person is dressed in a way that suggests their presence is legitimate, that's less likely to happen. In the Eastleigh case, how did they get hold of the right gear? Buy it from the club shop? Or are Eastleigh themselves complicit? [Post edited 21 May 8:53]

I think this is a major point. Reputational damage is going to stain Southampton for years over this. And they’ve not helped themselves in how they’ve dealt with it either. Of course the manager knew what they were up to so has lied. Southampton wanted time to do an internal investigation. No they didn’t. They wanted time to get their story straight so they’ve lied. It was disrespectful to their play off opponents and to the game itself. Does anybody think that it was just M’boro, Ipswich and Oxford who were on the end of this, weeks and months apart? Funny how the two league games they served up/confessed to proved to be meaningless, isn’t it. It’s nonsense and insulting peoples intelligence. Had I been on that committee listening to what they've had to say, I’d have booted them out for half an hour to have a rethink. So we heard that it didn’t affect games by some. Then why do it? And even if it didn’t, the rules were there following Leeds’ efforts a few years previously. If Southampton wanted time to start salvaging their reputation, they could start by saying goodbye to those involved and to start being honest. The more I think about it, the more I think they should be kicked into League 2. They have brought the game into disrepute and the game is more important than them.

Think your third paragraph is wrong, I suspect they strung it out as thought the longer it went on the harder it would be for the EFL to unwind the playoffs And that’s a bet they got wrong, had they fully put their hands up and pushed to be sorted before the second leg they might have got away with the first leg being forfeited (eg. 3-0 to Boro) and an (admittedly slim) chance to attack the second leg and makeup the deficit. I suspect more than one individual did the spying, this guy just did the three. Could be other staff members or they could even be paying an outsider. I’m sure the Manager isn’t the most senior employee aware of the spying.

What also really sticks out for me & boils my pi$$ is the downright abuse of power by whoever it was that instructed the intern/analysts (there were at least two of them according to the Beeb website) to do the spying - ie do the senior staff members' dirty work for them in the form of carrying out an illegal activity. I'm guessing those interns/analysts felt they couldn't refuse because they'd lose their jobs if they did. I really hope that's investigated separately, & whoever gave those instructions is given a separate & very hefty punishment.

I would say that any senior people who either authorised this or had knowledge of it should be fired. The easy thing to do is throw the interns under the bus.

Doesn't an intern typically shadow an experienced employee to gain experience?

Like, presumably , which senior member of staff who authorised the hotel expenditure. Lots of paper trails unless of course they used the time to complete an enquiry to tidy things up.

I probably watch too much crime drama on TV, but 'paper trails' aren't that easy to tidy up these days, as there's usually some digital record held within devices no matter how much pressing of the delete button there's been! Agree that the intent behind the request for an 'internal investigation" was purely to try & cover up/deviously delay, knowing that the fixed time limitations might pressurise the EFL though.
