Dykes is one of “Clarke’s men” - he will always get minutes even if he never features for whatever club he is benchwarming at. See also Gunn, Hanley, McLean, Ralston and Patterson.

Funny thing is, I have seen little or no better in the strikers in Scotland shirts in the games I have watched. Admittedly I have seen lots more of Hirst at club level but not many minutes on the pitch playing for Scotland. Pretty sure his hold up play, bossing of defenders and ability to run with the ball could have been useful, but suspect I am thinking of a Hirst a couple of seasons ago.
