Palacios looks so good! 22:19 - Sep 4 with 1994 viewsThatMuhrenCross

Him and Lukic look like they could be a really good partnership. He never gave the ball away, made some nice passes and carried the ball well in midfield. Looking forward to seeing them against lesser opposition now.

Honourable mentions to Jack Clarke, Zian Flemming and Ouattara who all looked really good off the bench.

Excited for the next few games now.

You know sometimes I wonder what people watch. He was good but made two muspasses to Liverpool players. We need to click defensively then the rest will sort itself.

He was tidy. Used the ball well generally, although made a couple of sloppy passes. Definitely could have worked harder to close down rather than jogged around, but only his first game. ‘ so good’ is a bit hyperbolic. Fleming looked decent when he came on for sure.

Very tough first couple of games but his touch and composure is on another level. I can see him getting better with games though.

So he made 2 bad passes in a match, the first match he's played in the PL and you're taking that as a negative?

I agree, I sometimes wonder what people watch.

He was good and he will be excellent, you can see it with how much time he has on the ball.

He looks very smooth. Lukic had a good game especially the second half.
Next four games coming up are where we need to start picking up some points.

Agree that palacios looks like he could be huge for us, but even I as his biggest new fan noticed a shocking pass or two 😊

Flemming I thought was wasteful and rushed, but first game nerves and all that

I was disappointed with our midfield tonight; looking at Liverpool's weakened pairing, I was kinda expecting our two of winning at least 50% of the possession in that area, but that was very much not the case.
Perhaps we need to be playing Florentino Luis or Azor Matusiwa in there alongside Palacios or Lukic, for ball-winning against these teams.

Read what the OP said.

"He never gave the ball away." Like a perfect performance. But he gave the ball away twice. So not flawless, just very good.

Who "never gave the ball away"? Lukic or Palacios? Because Palacios certainly did, at least twice I can remember. With two simple passes that should have connected. But as a pairing they will grow into a formidable central duo. I've got to say it but ' we need time to...gel' and when we do we'll be flying.

Agreed Pal did enough to convince he's a nailed on starter.

Lukic not so much tonight. His optimistic, expansive pass so early in the game led to Liv's first. Just play it into channels that early on! Chance of interception is too high.

I didn't interpret that as a negative but more a genuine response to a post that said he 'never gave the ball away'. Why jump on the poster who is factually correct?

Did he really?

I dont think that's the long term partnership. I think Florentino and Palacios is a much better balance.

Ideally I would play all 3.

Yes, the guy's quality is clear for all to see, it's all about those slight hip movements that buy him space and time. Have to hope that we can quickly enough forge a team that really lets him shine. If we keep him and Enciso fit we will have a chance. Really wish he'd executed that pretty simple pass to Fatawu in the first half mind you!

I took it as a negative but the poster has since clarified so all is well.

Agree on his body movement. Top class in that respect. Also it was like he had wing mirrors sometimes, just knew where the threat was going to be and avoided it. He will be extremely important to the team, but last night was far from a perfect performance. Looking forward to seeing what is to come, though.

That was a full-on welcome to the premiership for him last night, no matter how hard you prepare for it I imagine that the combined pace and skill on show last night must have been a revelation to be involved with. He should be key as he gets into his stride, played it safe a few times, and will definitely be more inclined to attempt classy through balls against teams that we will be more on par with (bit less likely to be punished every time you give the ball away).

Like the club promo says we 'have our new engine', and I fully expect him to switch on his turbo charger soon.

I thought he grew into the game and we saw several glimpses of what he could bring. Very promising.

The question we’re all going to be asking again is how long it takes the team to ‘gel’. We were asking that until well after Xmas last year and I’m not sure we ever fulfilled our potential despite going up. We need more team cohesion this year as our individual quality is so much lower relatively to most other teams. Even players like Palacios and Enciso will struggle if they’re not part of a better organised team.
