| Self inflicted 18:05 - Oct 31 with 1457 views | itfc_bucks | What in the last cold hell was Dara doing, backing off like that. You've got to go to the threat and the threat is the man with the ball, surely. Especially with a covering defender on the runner behind him. And Walton is dead centre of the goal. Set up the wall, trust them to cover that side and you deal with the other. Poor defending has cost us points again today. | |

I would also have been screaming at him if i was Walton from way before he got close to the edge of the box to go to the attacker. He shouldn't have needed to but thats also a little bit on him. Those are his faults, being too static, not great positioning and obviously isn't vocal enough. Its a shame but lessons to hopefully be learned and improved upon

The only thing i can think of is that he think Davis is going to be able to get back and put pressure on him before he gets the shot off. Would love to be a fly on the wall in the analysis meeting today.

Davis looked knackered running back.

| Self inflicted on 13:42 - Nov 2 with 920 views | Swansea_Blue | Backing off? It looked more like running away to me lol. It was very odd. As someone else mentioned, if you saw this in some foreign leagues you’d assume it was match fixing, that’s how peculiar it was. Not that I’m suggesting it was; presumably is was just a massive brain fart in the moment. | |

I think your last sentence has nailed it Swanners. I've never seen us make such an error for a goal. Whilst watching on the box I couldn't believe what I was seeing. But because it was so odd I think it was just a huge error and not an indication of systematic defensive frailties. I certainly don't think it should be held up as evidence for O'Shea's immediate removal from the team/club/county that some are suggesting it is. A complete over reaction from some with form in that area.

Although completely different situation I was reminded of a brain fart that Chambo did once where under no pressure he passed back to what he thought was the keeper but went straight to an opposing striker in between who scored (can't remember the game). I don't think it's worth analysing too much unless he does it again next week, which I'm sure won't happen. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

If you can listen back to the Radio Suffolk commentary. Alex Mathie went absolutely bananas.

Agreed, it’s be nuts to drop him. He’s going to make a few mistakes unfortunately but brings plenty of qualities on and off the pitch. We do need to strengthen our CB option in the longer term though. I’d like to think we’d be able to get some extra quality in in Jan, but that’s not an easy window is it. And as others have said, that was a bit of a collective cock up anyway despite the very bizarre ending.

Thing is, when players make mistakes you can usually pin point why it happens. With his it's such a bizarre situation there doesn't seem to be a logical explanation for it. I would love to know what he said to the others. What I can't decide if im proud of his team mates for not shouting at him afterwards, or if I want to see a bit of passion from those around him saying wtf was that.

Iirc, Walton was quite openly critical. He had his arms wide open in a wtf sort of gesture.
| Self inflicted on 15:07 - Nov 2 with 683 views | TripSwitch | O Shea repeatedly does 2 things that are absolutely unforgivable, cost goals and seem to be hard wired into him. This is the first one. Backing off, being more concerned about what's behind him than stopping a shot on goal The second, which is arguably even worse, is his horrible habit of having his studs on the ball, under no pressure and then toe poking it towards the attacker hes facing. Almost as if hes thinking so much about what pass to play he forgets to keep the ball under control. He did that vs Forest again and we were incredibly lucky not to concede. | |

This. Dara has his strong points, but every game I'm at with my son, every game, we look at each other at least once and say, "classic O'Shea." It always puts us right up against it pressure wise, but in the last two matches, it has really cost us. It's a shame because he seems a good bloke, and can be a great defender in certain situations. Ultimately though, we are going to need an upgrade.

With regards the passing straight to the opposition forward or losing control of the ball whatever you want to call it, it's a very weird tick he has that hes done it 5 or 6 times this season and last, and I cant remember having seen any other player in our side, and indeed any opposition side, doing it even once. Got away with it last season as we were geenrally on top in games and could conpensate but this season margins for picking up results are so tight he needs to iron out these clangers.

Many people are reluctant to criticise because he’s the captain and a nice guy, but DOS’ at best a Championship level defender in the PL. if he was that good he wouldn’t been relegated with THREE different teams THRICE in his career. We need an entire revamp of the back 4 in Jan.

If I am honest I don't disagree what you say about DoS although it pains me to say it. Outarra and DIop are fine, Leif worth persevering with to see if he can raise his game defensively though.
