I am trying to be green - really I am 19:50 - Jan 10 with 3770 views | bluelagos | But it's too cold for my little fingers to be riding a motorbike all winter...I have cracked. So - need some wheels. Requirements are: Weekends away - boot for camping gear. Also for early starts - I'd like something I can (occasionally) lie down / sleep in. So over 5ft 8 with the seats down. Run around for occasional food shop. Not overly worried about status / speed (Cos I ride bikes which clearly annihilate anything you could suggest in that regard :-) but nice driving car better than a poor one. Budget - am tight as - but happy to cough up for something really good. But simply can't bring myself to spend more than 25k on a car - would much rather spend 10k tbh and buy another motorbike. Ideas of cars to look at appreciated. You can save the mocking for if/when I have finally cracked. Edited title - from past tense. [Post edited 11 Jan 2020 0:57]

I tried to be green - really I did on 19:58 - Jan 10 with 1785 views | Swansea_Blue | The sleeping thing is the limiting factor. Assuming you mean horizontal on a camping map and not just curled up in a seat, you’re looking at a medium estate (Golf size) or small van. And one where the seat go flat rather than leave a step would be a bonus. If going away/sleeping out is a big thing, I’d even consider a small camper.

Well they own a good chunk of our utility supply and get paid millions for judging our own people fit for work*, despite them then dying in their thousands... So we know we can trust the French and need to give them as much of our money as possible because it's in the national interest. It's what being British, damn, English is all about mate. *This would include unwell ex-service veterans but who cares about that huh? Yes I know, I know. Yeah but Corbyn, socialist scum, commies...

Kind of went through that thought process - and reckon campers are overpriced and would defo be underused. But yeah - a folding down seat with accessible boot (Hatch or estate) would be fine...

I tried to be green - really I did on 00:35 - Jan 11 with 1577 views | Ryorry | £25K The friend I mentioned who loved going to Iceland on your other thread of "things you must do once", had specially adapted his swb Landrover Defender incl cutting 2 pieces of slim but strong wood to place over reclined front passenger seat & bench in rear, to make a removeable platform for a slim mattress. That was late 90s. You could go anywhere with that. Or you could buy a secondhand lwb model, even better - but they're expensive now.

Ridiculous amount of money isn't it. Maybe car hiring (when needed) is the answer - then SB can sleep easy - and I'd save a wad of dosh. Food for thought...

I slept in a Mondeo estate when I was homeless. It wasn’t the most comfortable. Buy an old Transit if it’s just for you and for going camping. You can do all sorts in the back of one of them. Or get one of the smaller transits. There are loads of options.

I don't see why people spend a fortune on cars, I would rather spend the money on life. I currently have a Hyundai Santa Fe which I have unfortunately just written off but it is the best driving experience I have had. 2007 model, nothing new and flash. Cars are a waste of money IMHO, why do people spend fortunes on them. Before house prices exploded my next door neighbour of my previous abode had a car worth more than his house. Ridiculous!

I've had a Mondeo estate and have to admit I really liked it. Not to live in. Just to drive.

I guess it depends what you call a fortune. MrsN and I don’t smoke or drink. We have meals out, don’t go on holidays. A nice car, that is safe and reliable, is high up on the list of things that I want for when I am away. Something I know will be fine for MrsN and Seb (when he is with her). So 18 grand on a nice car is a price worth paying to me.

I think he's probably referring to people who spend tens of thousands. The money you refer to, as you say, is a year of self-abuse to many of us. My sister's husband is one of those types who has to have a 40 grand car on the drive that no one likes to drive, cos it's a pile of over-priced expensive sh1t. But he thinks it impresses the neighbours.

Nah didn’t come across as a dig mate. I do get a lot of enjoyment out of having a car I like. I wanted a Jag for a long long time. That drive home in it was amazing. To think I have gone from living in a Mondeo and earning £500 a month to where I am now... it’s staggering. I have gone further than a man of my looks or intellect should.
