I think the OP is on her side, and mainly taking a swipe at how twits on Twitter misrepresent everything. It's a serious issue, as rational debate and ideas are shut down. PR and how you frame your ideas is very important, sadly. |  |

People need a figurehead. And she's galvanised support for the climate change movement amongst the yoof, in fact, it could be argued she started it single handedly in the current era.

I've got a climate science background. I spent the best part of 12-13 years working on problems caused by climate change. I've since spent about 10 years working in climate or related projects or working with scientists working on climate change and related issues.
And I agree Chelters. I'm not a fan of the language being used; 'climate emergency', 'world on fire', etc. It's probably correct, but it just turns people off. I don't know what the answer is though - using less emotive language and being more reticent doesn't work either.
It used to be a great field to work in; interesting, cutting edge and, critically, politicians would listen. These days it' been politicised to the point of tedious and attracts too many self-righteous justice warriors (or whatever the term is).
There IS a major problem, but it's getting lost in all the noise, vested interests, lobbying, polarised 'debate', etc.
Maybe a young girl highlighting how we're failing is just what's needed? |  |
