I've nothing against her on 17:31 - Feb 28 by DanTheMan | There's no point trying to convert people at this point. I've posted this a few times but if at this point you aren't on board, there isn't really much else that is going to convince you because the evidence is absolutely overwhelming. And it's been talked about by scientists and other people who put more eloquent arguments for decades. And the most we've got out of it are some weak promises that we'll do something at some point. Maybe. Honestly at this point, I'll take anger if it gets something done. |
We'd probably be better off as a planet if the current crop of teenagers all over the world were running their countries instead of the politicians - they could hardly do worse.

I've nothing against her on 16:34 - Feb 28 by monytowbray | i don't know what there is to be against with her in all honesty, she's right. Unless you're a fragile middle aged bloke who's upset a teenage girl is smarter and more driven than one's self. The hate she gets is frankly unbelievable. |
Complete Tosh. She is a young kid being exploited by her middle class left wing parents. Biggest puppet since Andy Pandy.

I've got infant plants out there in pots that I've not even bothered to fleece. They all seem fine and the grass is growing like nobody's business. Even the birds aren't bothering with the feeder and I found a huge slug wandering about yesterday so I suppose they don't need it. I've given up bothering to put food out atm.

That article contains literally nothing by ways of counter-argument to climate change but just indulges in ad hominem, baseless attacks. That may well sum up your 'feelings' but it still doesn't address the issues at large. And it's in Spiked ffs.

One of my cousins kept posting sh1te from that website on FB and I tried to tell him the editorial has a rather unusual and mixed background. Started off as a Marxist magazine didn't it (which will please Baz there immensely). It has stood up for paedophile rehabilitation (apparently) over punishment. Is known for its biased and unreasonable stance on climate change anyway and pushes the agenda regularly. Was taken to court by ITV for making false claims regarding the Bosnian conflict, saying some rather unpleasant things to boot. There's nothing there to be proud of or want to be associated with.

Unfortunately this is just about right, some people just don't want to be told the realities of the situation and that includes some very intelligent people. Climate change due to coal burning was first postulated and calculated by Svante Arrhenius in the 1890's. He was a little way off, he thought it would take 3,000 years to move the climate 5C but he could see what would happen and there was a lot less coal burning back then. SB

I've nothing against her on 17:41 - Feb 28 by BackToRussia | The point is, cretin, that an area about the size of Europe was on fire. Would you call that localised? |
It was nowhere near the size of Europe, at the end of Jan reports suggested about 7.7m hectares had been on fire which is about 1/3 of the size of the UK Not sure why the need to exaggerate so much when 1/3 of the size of the UK is still a pretty huge number!

The irony of him calling someone else a puppet. Dan is right though, there’ll always be a small minority of people who won’t accept the truth, see also holocaust denial and flat earthers, it’s a waste of valuable time and energy to worry about these idiots at this stage.

The guy who runs it is just a professional contrarian who isn't as important as he'd like to be and seems very angry about it. Pretty much everything on Spiked can be dismissed without a second thought. When you open an article about someone with autism by suggesting their monotone voice and blank expression means they're in a cult, you know that the author isn't to be taken seriously.

I've nothing against her on 17:16 - Feb 28 by hampstead_blue | Oh, the world isn't flat either. She is on a world tour shouting at the converted. Let he be. I'm still waiting for her to say something interesting which can go toward helping the problem. It's all headline soundbites. Leave her to her audience and hopefully she can change something along the way. |
Her point is that the so-called adults need to stop talking and start doing. It's the failure to act of those in power that's the issue. By imposing stricter regulations, bringing into line those countries that don't give a sh!t and by using the billions in government funding they can access for the large-scale solutions that are needed. Making it a current problem to resolve rather than something decades in the future is the solution. Thunberg has made a dent in that passivity. You sound as if you're just trying to dismiss the message.

on that basis you should also be praising theresa may for ratifying the paris accord and introducing the 2019 amendment to the climate change act. the heathrow judgement shows how important that is going to be going forward. she has given campaigners a powerful tool. in terms of 'start doing' theresa may may well prove to be a bigger bit of the story than greta - but not quite so social media friendly.
| And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show |

Jesus christ. Everyone else has come up with the ideas. That is her whole point. Everyone else has been told what needs to be done and nobody has made a good enough effort to combat the issues. And that's why they are protesting. She tells everyone else to listen to the scientists who have told us all, over and over again, every damn year, what we need to do.

Well job done then. Not sure what the fuss is about if an agreement has been ratified and a third runway is being blocked ... No-one has said politicians have done nothing but they need to do more and on a global scale. I'd hope you know that but it's hard to tell sometimes.

One trick pony with no ideas and a family who has money and are trying to keep her in the limelight. At the end of the day she is achieving nothing. The powers that be dont want to be told by a child. You can see it on their faces. She needs ideas to back her shouting up.
