I believe Gazza had a few trials at various clubs and was passed due to his weight, Phil will confirm, also think we had a few players coming up from the youth team who the club viewed as the next gen.

Yes, I understood that it was partly due to his weight.
I think he was fifteen at the time(age not stone) and a lot of fifteen year old's at a lot of clubs have not been taken on by that club but then gone on to do big things.
