Would Mike Ashley be so bad? 13:38 - Sep 2 with 4798 views | BlueandTruesince82 | Yes he is Mike Ashley but.... If he gets £300 mil for NU (should he find someone who is not dodgier than Arthur Daly to sell it to) that's a big chunk of change to play with. Town can't cost more than £25 to £50 million and even that seems over the odds, Evans would need to write off a large chunk of debt and think he would just to be rid so that would leave £250 mil burning a hole in Ashleys pocket... if he spent a fraction of that it would still be more than Evans stumps up. A half decent manager and £5 mil should get us out of l1? Also I would be able to feel less guilty about buying from his retail empire. @gavTWTD.... have you heard anything on this or is it all tabloid journo conjecture?

Would Mike Ashley be so bad? on 13:42 - Sep 2 with 3914 views | MonkeyAlan | I'd take him. The Newcastle fans moan but he spends money on players every year. Maybe not on the scale of City, United etc but he certainly would spend money to get us through the leagues. Evans won't even give his dinner money for players.

Me too. Would be a step up from the current ownership and by the standards of football club owners countrywide, not too dodgy.

Would Mike Ashley be so bad? on 14:00 - Sep 2 with 3793 views | WarkTheWarkITFC | Is this how low we've sunk. Dreaming about other awful owners that just aren't as bad as ours. We can't even dream of just having a competent owner or one who would employ competent staff to work for him. This is like Triggers dream woman. Nothing much to look at. A scar on her nose where she'd had a wart removed. [Post edited 2 Sep 2020 14:05]

"Where are we? " Exactly, why would Ashley buy a club in the doldrums of League One when it could take two years at least to start making any money and that's if we got double promotion which is a massive gamble and the chances of it happening are more unlikely than likely.

Newcastle are a Premier League team with TV money and no salary cap. And Ashley’s spending has not tended to keep pace with the demands of the PL, and where he has spent he’s often imposed conditions on his managers (no players above a certain age so they have sell on value etc). And that’s not even 1% of why he’s been a terrible owner.

It was 'reported' a couple of months ago that he was interested in buying a league one club.

Indeed, there is a whole world of guff out there, but the idea of Ashley buying a league one club is not one that has just been pulled out of TWTD's collective @rse.

But the point there is that they are in the PL is it not?.... not too long ago we were both Champ clubs. Regardless of restrictions imposed....they have gone up in the world. Evans also imposes restrictions and in terms of how much is spent they are far greater than Ashley imposes

True, but both times they went up they were doing so with PL squads and excellent managers (Hughton and Benetiz) - both of whom left shortly afterwards. I’d argue any success they’ve had has been despite Ashley rather than because of him, but whatever. I think my main objection to Ashley is the kind of bloke he is tbh - if this club means anything it surely means not being owned by Mike Ashley! ‘Mike Ashley’s Ipswich Town’... shudder.

At the end of the day, Ashley is just a business man first and foremost that's it. He's in it for money. He is screwing Newcastle and the Rangers for money. He dug his deep claws into Rangers and they're only just escaping his clutches, contracts and underhand dealings a few years after he left them with merchandise deals that boosted his empire and did very little for the club itself. Firstly, he would screw us up far worse. Secondly, he just is in it to make as much money as he can for HIMSELF, not the club. Thirdly, he would be looking for a 'big' club, we do not compare to Newcastle or Rangers in the revenue pull he would be looking to exploit. He is bad news. Knowing Rangers fans, he is nearly as bad as Craig Whyte. It's a massive no for me.

But they were in the Championship for one season with players on 80k a week including Mitrovic, Gayle, Matt Ritchie Shelvey and a whole host of others hardly a surprise they went up straight away and hardly a comparison with us.

So, what you are saying there then, is that Ashley has a record of appointing excellent managers.

So depsite going down Ashley still facilitated 80k a week..... as opposed to Evans stretching for a 10? I accept Ashley is a Wad but think we are probably more suited to his budget and we'd get more out of him then Evans. If other white knights exist I'd be happy to see them gallop over tne hill
