London should come out of lockdown on 14:47 - Nov 9 with 1828 views | StokieBlue | The number of cases still isn't "low" though. Many other areas of the UK have had lower than that and were forced into lockdown. Wouldn't bringing London out of lockdown early prove what the people up north were saying that London is treated differently? I am not much enjoying the lockdown but if the cases and R are falling now then they will continue to fall the longer the lockdown is on. Coming out too early would seem to waste the effort of lockdown in the first place. SB

There was a story June/July time that said up to 1.5 million people in London had been infected. That's about 1/6.
London should come out of lockdown on 14:48 - Nov 9 with 1820 views | bluefunk | London is a ghost town compared to pre lockdown v1. The daytime population of London gets swollen by millions in “normal” circumstances, via commuters and tourists and the former also move around constantly which is not happening now, so it’s not that much of a surprise that infections are down. What is a surprise (well it is to me) is that the virus is also not affecting the commuter belt as badly as it is Northern/Midlands cities

Yes, it might piss the northerners off, but the numbers are very different, so could be justifable. On the whole, I think I agree with you about keeping lockdown going, but interesting stuff all the same

Whilst you are right the population is down when people are WFH I actually think there are a lot more people about this "lockdown" when compared to March. With the schools open and every shop deeming itself "essential" people are still out and about getting the dog cleaned and buying Japanese knifes. SB

There are definitely more people about, and yet the infection rate has not spiralled out of control in London, which is providing ammunition for those who believe in a mor proportionate response [Post edited 9 Nov 2020 14:55]

You should have at least been getting takeaway beers from Pillars and Wildcard to ensure they are open post-Covid! SB

I'm afraid I'm too cheap to be buyeing their take away booze - the cheapest they do is 2l for £15. Noticed Lacons in Yarmouth have just gone live with their offerring though which seems better value, so might try that instead (5l mini keg for £20).

Other studies have said around 6% have caught it. We can't rely on the fact someone has had it to be played into any 'release' of lockdown. The number is way too low and there are hundreds of cases reported around the world of re-infection

I had one turn up last week, will keep me well stocked for the next month. I've had one of the Strange Seas so far, quite liked it but was a bit sweet but that might have been in contrast to something more robust beforehand. Think it might be own to have the odd one of at a time rather than serially. As for Ulla's OP, if London rates do stay low then it's potentially good news for a loosening of restrictions in December but there was quite a lot of variation between boroughs three weeks ago so it would need to be a cross-city fall rather than merely the average.

The problem with local lockdowns is there's little to stop people from high rated areas going to lower rated areas for a night out/weekend away. At least with a national lockdown it stops that. Would have been better to get Wales and Scotland to do the same... but...

The week-to-week fluctuation in small areas is quite noticeable. It's obviously the result of hard boundaries between grades and also the area breaks (I thought it was at ward level initially but that doesn't seem to be the case where I am).

I understand there's far, far fewer commuters coming into London and have been for some time now. Compared to the North where there's been a lot of movement of people to various universities, for example.
