New manager, again? 09:18 - Nov 25 with 1541 viewsNorthLondonBlue2

So, after Burley, we’ve had Magilton, Keane, Jewell, McCarthy, Hurst and now Lambert.

The law of diminishing returns writ large and a sad rejection of the Ipswich way to stick with our man.

There’s never been enough extra money. There’s been no change of direction from the owner and no prospect of improvement with someone new.

Whatever does need to change, it’s not the manager.

....club owners.

He also puts in more than enough money to give the current manager the ammunition he needs to get out of the 3rd Division.

A number of things undoubtedly need to change, but the first one is the manager.

Some of what has changed has been the football environment itself (finances, transfers, inequality, etc.). But, equally, we haven't kept pace with that.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Football clubs change manager when they fall short of expectation.

While the problems at our once great football club go much deeper than the manager, Lambert has had two years to improve us and we've gone backwards.

The size of the task is no doubt immense under Evans stewardship, but we can certainly do better than we currently are. We are third tier flat track bullies who look highly unlikely to get out of the division on the basis we can't win a game against anyone in the top 8 or so.

He should have gone in the summer and as much as I want to back the team I've seen nothing to change my mind.

This is a perfectly normal number of managers to have had in 20 years.

Puts "more than enough money in" - It's this attitude that's enabling him to do the bare minimum and put us in the third division. There's a reason we ended up in League One, it's because the owner reduced the budget so much we were the something 5th or 6th lowest players in the Championship, and obviously paying some of the lowest fees for players. We had a League One squad and manager a year before we found ourselves at this level - and months before Paul Lambert was even appointed. It was Evans who put us here, and by largely by choice and he's quite happy to leave things as they are.

You get what you deserve in football and Evans got exactly what he deserved for the lack of care, effort and bare minimum and poor Marcus routine you fell for. By all means keep blaming managers, but when the next one comes along and the same things happen again, maybe then you will look at the man at the top and finally recognize why we're in the state we are.

Sorry, I don't really get why we're entitled to a budget in excess of the revenues we generate? I'd be happy enough if we were making the most of the resources we have, to be honest.

This too is true as part of the problem at PR. But the big difference ( problem) is we can’t get rid of Marcus Evans, until HE wants to sell up.

We are outcoached every week, every team looks a more professional outfit than us, we look like 11 individuals, not 1 team. No organisation, no structure.

Thats basics of football, if can't implement these fundamentals after over 2 years you are real real real trouble, it's the type of fundamental you expect to see after 2 months of a new tenure.

We are so disorganised, we look like a deck of cards just floating in the wind, no direction, control.

The big problem with Evans is that he runs the club badly, not that he doesn't give us loads of money (which we aren't entitled to and isn't a necessary precondition for the club being run well).

Since he's not going anywhere, the only real change we can make to how the club is run is by changing the guy who: chooses the first team coaching staff, decides how the players are coached, decides which players to retain and recruit, shapes the club culture in the day-to-day, decides how the first team is aiming to play. That's the manager.

Interestingly there are managers who can work within the confines that Clubs like Ipswich find themselves in.

The Cowleys, for example, have proven they can deliver results within a restrictive environment.

We have the likes of Mick and Warnock (shudder) and others.

I think on a longer term, more holistic level there are plenty of valid criticisms of Evans. The way the club is managed on that front is p1ss poor and has been for years.

Having said that, we've got one of the most expensive squads in the division, and the highest paid manager in the division. You have to ask yourself, more immediately, is this management team getting the best out of this group of players? I can't help but feel the answer to that is overwhelmingly a no. Lambert's time is up.

Joe Royle too.

Not sure about diminishing returns but what’s noticeable in that list is, irrespective of the money (in fact money didn’t help in Magic’s case), we’ve only had three managers capable of building a team ie. something that was better than the sum of its parts.

Joe, Magic (pre-Evans) and Mick.

Think that’s the crucial aspect, not money or even tactical innovation.
