Let's face it the majority of the collective have him a free pass, despite the fact he had time to rescue us (not a huge difference to position faced by M M in 2012), as the damage had been done with Guest's pre-season vandalism.
He had done a good PR job, more ST holders for the next season as the fans backed the club. Follow the town up AND DOWN...
Judging the next season on league position alone, we started well...

The free pass will forever be the cringest thing ever in our history

On the contrary, I was proud of our support at the time. We gave our all as supporters, despite what was happening on the pitch, and very few clubs' supporters would've done so to that extent. It's a credit to the supporters of this club, not something to mock them with.
Trust the process. Trust Phil.

A lot of people are trying their best to look cool by pretending that they were the cynical ones who wanted him out at the time.
They are being condescending to the people cheering as they obviously are embarrassed by doing the same - but think that they are too smart to now own up to it.

....cos every little thing, is gonna be alright"
Dickweeds.
What's the issue with positivity in the face of adversity? A good British stuff upper lip when faced with something many of us, as town fans, had never faced... 3rd tier football.
Retrospectively judging that stance negatively is really bad form in my opinion.

Was it cringe worthy at the time?
Or just using hindsight?
Of course they are using hindsight. They are now trying to act cool by getting a massive hard on every time Cardiff wins. I wish Mick well, and hope he does a good job there, but their love in for him is cringey. Pricks the lock of them.

Maybe I'm in a minority of one then, because I actually thought Mick's time was up and we needed a fresh approach, but equally found relegation extremely depressing and didn't see why we waved the white flag so proudly.

To be perfectly honest I’m embarrassed that I gave him a free pass - in my defence, well I haven’t really got one. I simply didn’t really envision how depressing L1 really is and I honestly did think that we would walk the league last season.
All I can say is that I will be a tad more cynical about future managers

Just so we are clear...are you suggesting
A) I didn't stand up against the Mick abuse
B) I didn't raise the fact Lambert could (and probably should) have saved us
C) I didn't raise the fact that we were going overboard for PL is a blue when he had showed no evidence of succeeding here

No, I'm quite happy and content to say I walked out at full time and didn't engage in any happy clapping.
For me relegation was a travesty and no amount of free beer could cheer me up from the fact that we were entering the 3rd tier.
If people wanted to clap then who am I to tell them otherwise, I just personally felt absolutely numb.
The context of the clap is surely "we'll support you* evermore" *you defined as ITFC, not any individual but as encouragement for the future
The clap wasn't exactly a well done for being the worst Ipswich team* EVER! *at that point in history
Fine you were numb enough, and principled enough not to participate. But why scornfully judge those who did? Abusing your own fellow fans is poor form in this instance.
Positivity in the face of adversity is what divides survivors from those that don't ( think there's some good studies about commonalities between shop wreck survivors - older people with dependants rather single people without responsibilities)

....mediocrity has been sweeping through our club behind the scenes for years.
That was the day that it reached the fanbase.
The literal definition of happy clapping.
The shame indeed.
You neither understand gallows humour... or support. There was nothing we, as supporters, could do to stop the slide. So we stood in the face of adversity and supported our hearts out. It might've helped - certainly more than booing would have.
The various protests now (as much as we can due to Covid) show that the support doesn't just blindly accept mediocrity.
Trust the process. Trust Phil.

....I judged it at the time, as most people know.
That's not "really bad form", it wasn't even prophetic, it was obvious to anyone who wasn't blinded by Lambert's posturing and PR.
Now we appear to have a fanbase that are getting giddy about the prospect of the club being taken over by a US based consortium that have a background in property development.
The writing is on the wall.

Fair enough, you make a good point regarding pouring scorn on others, I shouldn't have done that and fair play to anyone who took relegation on the chin, maybe they are better men than I am.
