Feeling sorry for Paul Cook 08:40 - Apr 11 with 3150 viewsPinewoodblue

Worrying that someone who tells it how he sees it didn’t trust himself enough to face the media.

You can only assume that he is in turmoil and questioning if he has made a false move.

In reality Marcus Evans may have left his biggest mistake to the last. On reflection it would have been wiser to have handed the managers role to Dyer and Butcher on a caretaker basis allowing the new owners to appoint from the top down, new CEO, then a new manager.

Having said that there is a job to be done and I am sure PC is more than capable of doing it, as long as it is something he wants to do.

I really do hope that come Tuesday evening that collectively PC, his support team, and players show an appropriate level of commitment.

Trawling through and can't see, has Phil commented on this situation or non situation?

I'm not saying for a minute he is going to walk but can see why:

a) He may well be hugely p!ssed off ME lied to him

b) He may be concerned how this all effects his role - he had big plans for this summer and bringing in his own people. Will a new CEO have control of this, involvement in recruitment? He was open about the fact he was being picky with his next role and also open about the fact the manager/CEO relationship and dynamic is the most important one at a club. Goalposts have potentially moved.

However, he would be a little silly to throw his toys out of the pram over the Manager-CEO relationship when the latter hasn't even been appointed yet.

Let's be honest, it'll be a huge shock if it isn't Ashton won't it? He's been linked with this since day 1. And if that is the case, would assume MO'L has given him the common courtesy of telling him that. Cook has past dealings with Ashton.

Not really.

Yes, they are known associates, but Ashton is very embedded at Bristol, plus having a position representing the Championship on the EFL board.

I do wonder if he’s waiting and if Ashton is appointed he’ll quit. Could be why we haven’t had confirmation of an appointment; O’Leary is trying to convince Cook of Ashton’s virtues and Cook is digging his heals in. The problem for Cook is results on the pitch are hardly putting him in a position of strength.

It would be extraordinary if Cook has taken that much dislike to Ashton simply from his experience of interviewing for the Bristol job.

With the thing of not fitting into the culture, that may have been driven as much by the Lansdownes as the CEO. To give such a fulsome endorsement ('top of our list', etc.), O'Leary - who knows Ashton well - can't feel that way about having Cook at Town.

Our manager needs to be a strong influence especially if we're going to make mass changes over the summer, his head needs to rise above water.

Refusing to do pre and post match interviews is not a good indicator. Lambert was absolutely blasted for it, and rightly so. Lambert had us playing damn awful football and was blasted for it, and rightly so. Just because Cook didn't sign these players (he knew that coming into the job strangely enough) he's not allowed to be criticised?

There is sure to be continued speculation , until PC comments, which really isn’t in anyone’s interest.

It maybe he didn’t trust himself not to throw the toys out of the pram. The sooner he explains himself the better it will be for everyone, not least preparation for what will be the most important game he has managed for us.

Wimbledon scored goals away to Accrington yesterday.

The speculation is mostly self-generating. It's only been four days and people are working themselves up into a frenzy.

In that time, Cook has a lot of work on. Training, searching for a setup which works short-term, assessing the long-term future of half his squad, looking at possible targets for the summer. Now he has to deal with a takeover and a new set of working relationships on top.

Perhaps, having shouted himself hoarse during a very frustrating match, coming out to give careful soundbites to the press about something he may still be weighing up in his own mind is the last thing he wants to do. Especially as he may have felt it more important for the future of the club to be, as Gill put it, 'chatting' to some of the players.

Completely agree. People are ignoring parts of the story that we have been told and inventing entire new ones. Cook isn't stupid. He would know Ashton is a possibility but according to MOL he was concerned he was about to be let go when they met.

I think people need to take a breath.

Truly impaired.

...or the fact that he was fuming given his game plan worked to perfection only what had been worked on all week failed to be executed despite some glaring opportunities.

Not sure why everyone is focussed on the takeover being an issue for him over the performance given we’re blowing a golden opportunity to make the play-offs. Seems to me, that would be PCs focus more than the buyout given the type of football-aholic he seems to be.

Yesturday was painful for him I imagine

We played some nice football, we were solid against a side known for it's possession football all throughout the season etc, and currently 4th in the form table yet it's a 0-0 and 0 shots on target that everyone talks about.

When you re-watch the game, the chances we actually had were criminal to miss. Dobra from 3 yards, sears's lob, but also his effort from outside the box which he really should have got on target etc. Drinan's random turn back when through on the keeper.

Such fine lines between a 3-0 home victory and a well done, to booo another game with 0 shots on target

We didnt deserve to vaguely beat them. They dominated the ball, dominated chances and were a little unlucky not to win themselves.

End of day both sides deserved to draw 0-0 as neither scored,

my point was it wasn't 90 minutes of a dog awful performance.

And MK dons have dominated games with the ball alot this season, just because we're Ipswich doesn't mean that would suddenly change.
Even when they played Hull and lost 1-3 in November they had possession 65% over 35% as an example. MK dons also had 12 shots to Hulls 8, both sides had 4 on target
yesturday MK dons possession 67% ipswich 33% Shots MK Dons 13 to Ipswich 7
Difference was 0 ipswich shots on target..

So just taken a comparison from that game, Hull had 1 more shot than us, but actually had 4 on target. But were beaten on stats exactly the same as we were.

But the new regime has expressly said to us, and to Cook as well, that Cook was their number one choice too. So why on earth would having a caretaker for a couple of games, and then appointing Cook, have improved matters?

Evans also said not so long ago that he wasn't going to sell. You can't believe every word that comes out of these people..

Possession does not win matches.

Holy made a great save from their free kick. That was the only shot all match that really threatened.

Sears had two pops at open goals that he could not direct on target and Drinan was set through one-on-one on the keeper and chose to turn and pull the ball back instead of shooting.

Ultimately, neither team deserved to win.
