I hope we get an assistant that rouses a cheer, and then a couple of signings that show real intent. I feel like we are in need of that given the way the last 10 games went, the (so far) underwhelming clear out, and the low key coaches appointed.
I know time will tell and the dust isn’t settled yet. I still fully expect a significant improvement in performances and results next season so I’m not being doom and gloom, but I’m just saying how I feel at the moment. |  |

Yep I think this is a fair reaction.
After years of underwhelming summers followed by seasons, this summer’s incomings/outgoings haven’t installed much confidence in some. Especially after the shambolic start Cook has made. Three quarters of our strike force scored one goal each last season and the coaching set up that Cook had is being replaced by a couple of punts.
But I think it’s just early scepticism. I’m sure we’ll make the quality signings we need to transform things. |  | | |

I guess I was expecting a little more experience. Assistant is key now.
If all goes well then no problem, but so far I’m surprised that most appointments have been Bristol City and Merseyside. Maybe naively I thought we’d cast the net a little more widely - especially given that Ashton has such wide contacts in the game.
And re Jeffers - the yanks have come across and cleaner than clean and I wrongly thought they wouldn’t be employing someone with such recent convictions of fairly unsavory behavior. [Post edited 12 May 2021 14:00]

Expecting to be excited about Jeffers is like expecting Liverpool fans getting excited by Pep Lijnders when he turned up as assistant.
I don't think I've ever thought "oh yeah, he's a good coach to get" because nobody really knows how good a coach is other than players and the manager. |  | | |

All managers look to bring in people they can trust, most of PC's previous coaches are now at higher levels which shows he knows how to pick them.
Im not happy about the person Jeffers seems to be, but based on football and football alone a premiership u23 coach with 5 years experience dropping down to league 1 is actually a coup.
Where people come from, don't really understand why that even comes into it.
Modern football has changed over the years, PC's style and desire for a certain way of playing is part of this new footballing landscape, you could bring in a 50 year old with many years of experiences but would they have the knowledge on how to do what PC wants with his squad. That's the key | |

Quantity, not quality.
Personally if I was an offshore debt pedlar sitting in my Ohio office I would be a tad concerend that Bristol City hadn't pulled up many trees in recent years - but all they are interested in is the bottom line - and I doubt they are remotely concerned about the tiny punt that is moribund ITFC.....just yet.
So the Bristol City bloke will employ all his old mates in the belief that relocated to Ipswich they can somehow do better than in Bristol.
Alas the key appointment is an inspirational manager who knows what he is doing. | |
