"I accept that I breached the social distancing guidance in these circumstances,"

"I have let people down and am very sorry.

"I remain focused on working to get the country out of this pandemic, and would be grateful for privacy for my family on this personal matter."

How has he not resigned?

He still has a use to the government as their fall guy. I suspect they'll hang on to him for now and then in a few months we'll never hear the name again.

Just a shame he was Health Sec during a global pandemic.

Serious question: how did someone so painfully thick ever get into government, let alone in a role as important as Health Sec?

Mainly because people like you footers (and a few others who frequent social media often), with the intelligence, education, aptitude, professionalism, sincerity, humility, loyalty, humour and dedication, never put themselves up for such high office - or prefer to judge others rather than let others judge them. Such a shame.

I think you'll find the 1983 election was somewhat disastrous for Labour.

Aside from Nye Bevan, Mr Foot was probably the greatest PM we never had.

Absolute hypocrite. So we cannot hug our parents and families, couples have been kept apart - while he does this. Beyond belief - even more reason to want to punch that smug face of his.

He must have stuff on Johnson over the pandemic. Better to keep in cabinet where he cant blab. However, I doubt him blabbing would have much impact overall. Johnson can do what he wants as the 50% of the electorate (the Tories and old UKIP) have got the only government they can stomach. A government that is pro-Brexit, xenophobic and just a little bit racist. Just like those 50%ers.

No, it happens to be the truth, well perhaps, sort off. Anyone in the UK can join a political movement, stand for office etc etc. Most of us choose not to do so. We then continually criticise those that do, often rightly so. Perhaps my comments were rather tongue in cheek, but they do have a ring of truth.
Oh and footers, to keep calling someone that might just occasionally disagree with you a troll is a misuse of the word. This site is I believe for all users whatever their believes or persuasions.
