In deepest darkest Suffolk for a week dog-sitting 16:35 - Sep 3 with 2221 views | unbelievablue | And fancy taking a few trips on the old bi-cycle (not, on this occasion, a euphemism). Any recommendations for oddities to visit, whether they be pubs, villages, beaches, churches, historical sites etc. etc.? We're talking 20 or so miles north of Ipswich. Sax way.

You can eat and drink very well at the Eels Foot and watch all the wildlife from the beer garden. Kill Two birds and all...not literally. [Post edited 3 Sep 2021 16:52]

Never been - just looks like a minor ruin from the road. Dunwich is worth a visit.

In deepest darkest Suffolk for a week dog-sitting on 18:47 - Sep 3 with 1656 views | TVRBlue | There are some lovely narrow lanes to cycle round in the Saxmundham area. And just to clarify I have no affiliation to any of the pubs or places I'm suggesting below! To the north east you can head to Dunwich where there is a very small museum highlighting how large Dunwich, an important port back in the day, once was. Whilst there you could have a pint or two in The Ship Inn. There is also a cafe/restaurant at the beach car park that is known for good fish and chips. Other good pubs in the north east area are Middleton Bell - they keep their Adnams VERY well here. It's also know for good food. Eastbridge Eels Foot (as someone else has mentioned), Westleton White Horse too. To the north there's Wissett Plough and Rumburgh Buck, again, both good real ale pubs. In a general western direction there are two pubs at Laxfield. One is the Royal Oak right next to the Church, the other is The Low House - literally the other side of the Churchyard. The Royal Oak also keeps Adnams well, and The Low House has (or did have last time I was in there), a "tap room" where real ale is poured straight from the barrel. Another good pub to the west is Sweffling White Horse. A little further west you will be at Framlingham where I'd recommend The Castle. In the same general area you've got Brandeston Queens Head and Easton White Horse. South you've got Chillesford Froize Inn - a "foodie" pub - but VERY GOOD food, Blaxhall Ship - I haven't been as impressed with this one the last couple of times I've been but you never know! Three pubs in Snape, The Golden Key, The Crown, and The Plough and Sail (at Snape Maltings). Further south at Orford there's The Jolly Sailor and The King's Head. Further further south there's Woodbridge where I'd suggest The Angel, The Mariner's Arms, The King's Head, or The Anchor. Even further south is Newbourne Fox, and The Maybush Inn at Waldringfield overlooking the river. East of Saxmundham area you're a little limited because of the sea! At Thorpeness there's The Dolphin, at Aldeburgh The Cross Keys or The White Hart. Some people knock Leiston but it's a very nice place with a great history relating to The Garrett Works. Here I'd suggest The Engineers Arms directly opposite The Long Shop Museum - another great place to visit. Slightly closer to Saxmundham is The Poachers Pocket at Kelsale. It has quite recently changed hands but I had a good pint or two in there a few weeks ago. Anyway, just a few ideas...........and a week won't be long enough! Whatever you decide have a great time. Cheers!

I seem to recall they discovered the grave of a very large dog or wolf in Leiston Abbey. Possibly believed to be Black Shuck?

No, it's just some archaeological chancers (dig ventures) attempting to raise funds and the excavation profile by pretending a great Dane skeleton could be something more interesting
In deepest darkest Suffolk for a week dog-sitting on 10:16 - Sep 4 with 1068 views | ElephantintheRoom | I'm impressed the dog can ride a bike. Depends where you are near I guess - if near Leistom there is a nice circuit to take in Aldeburgh, Thorpeness - and indeed Sizewall. If your're venturing further afield you can take your bike across the river from Southwold to Walberswick - but dont do that at weekends as the Londoners are 'at their cottages' then - and the pubs become unbearable. There's a nice route around Benhall that takes you to Framligham - and the castle on the hill in one direction - and yoxford in the other direction - with the chance to buy some overpriced bacon or spanish chocolate at Emmett's in Peasenhall. For a trip with a difference you could cycle to some of the old USAAF airfields along the backroads - Leiston has a nice memorial and includes Chuck Yeager and Bud Anderson amongst its illumini - Parham has a little museum and Bentwaters is an interesting spot too.
