Barry - recall 20:16 - Sep 27 with 2299 viewsMillsTash

Anyone know if Villa have a recall on Barry? Hasn’t played an awful lot and could see them recalling him if he’s just going to play in our 23’s. Don’t think he did any favours for himself in the pizza trophy.

Yes, they recalled him a few weeks ago which is why he hasn't played since.

The strangest one of all the signings made for me. I didn’t really understand it at the time, and I still don’t now, given the amount of competition for places. He’d have had to have made a ridiculous impression to achieve the regular kind of game time that Villa would have undoubtedly wanted.

Complete waste of a loan for me, especially given he’s a like for like for Dobra, which we’ve since been forced to loan out to accommodate Barry.

The Aluko signing was rather odd and left field, but at least you could argue his experience would be beneficial, if not on the pitch then at least behind the scenes / changing room.

How much regular game time are Villa expecting? Presumably he would have got no first team squad involvement there. If he can work his way into our squad/provide cover for unavailability and then play plenty of 15-30 minutes cameos for us that is more than he would have got there.

Who knows what the expectations of all parties are. That said, I agree it does not look a very wise loan overall.

If he's not involved then I'm sure he'll go back in January.

Our start hasn't helped him. If we'd chalked up 5 wins already and were looking cohesive he'd have a good chance of getting some game time as Cook would be looking to rotate the attacking players to keep them all fresh. As it is we're playing catch up and trying to find and stick to our best XI.

I think he was signed at a time when ashton was not sure if we would be able to sign : Celina, and edwards and theredore needed reinforcements on that left side to compete , he was definitely signed as backup in case their top targets werent signed,

I can see barry bekng recalled with aluko being released at end of season

You make a good point here, although saying that, Cook’s renowned for not changing a winning team either, so if we’d have made a good start with a consistent 11, I can’t imagine Barry would have been included within that selection, so not entirely sure how much difference it would have made. I don’t think it’s unrealistic for Villa to have expected at least half a season (20-25 games) of regular football, which he’s just not going to get here. Just think it was the wrong choice for all parties, but hey, there’s still time I guess?

Villas fans are claiming he's unhappy and that the Ipswich camp is not a happy one either. They are angry we haven't used him. I can't honestly say I have seen enough to say he should be in the team but out midfield has not really performed has it?

Seemed a bit of a luxury BEFORE we signed Aluko and Celina…..and also kept Jackson.

Unless he scores a hat-trick 3 weeks in a row for the U23 he is just not going to get a game for us.

I think he will go back to Villa in January and then get loaned out somewhere else where he will get game time.He did start in the Burton game as well as the Pizza cup + several sub appearances, but he has not looked very good , to light weight and not as good as Dobra. We would be better off with Dobra back here and Barry elsewhere.

Agreed, and that was before we signed Edward's and Celina even.

Bad decision, as we need to make sure we get Premier League loans right in order to give teams confidence in sending their promising players here.

It was an incredible transfer window, but feel we were a bit greedy.

Would we have got Barry and Aluko if we’d signed Celina or Edwards first? Aluko I can kind of understand for the experience angle, but Barry just doesn’t make sense.

Best for all parties if he leaves. If all parties agree outside the window - can he be recalled? Didn’t this happen with an Everton loanee. Conor Grant? He might as well play for Villa 23’s than ours.

I can't understand why Aluko doesn't get more game time. He is a quality player, strong and skilled.

I think he's very much one of the players that Cook has alluded to in post-match conferences in the Carabao/Pizza games when he's said he's given some players opportunities to show why they should be starting league games and they've done absolutely nothing to convince him at the moment.

I'm sure he was loaned here on the basis that he would be a first team regular but we can't be forced to play someone who seemingly doesn't deserve to be playing and just because Aston VIlla want it. I fully expect him to go back in January.

Saw that on the Villa Talk page (don't shoot me, I Googled it).

Their forum is as full of clueless armchair strikers as every other one... except TWTD, obvs...

There are some jokers saying they should get rid of him if he's not up to a bench spot on L1.
