where we are right now.... 08:40 - Nov 1 with 7221 viewsblueysbackside

....I might be wrong but it seems to me that there are fans just waiting for a bad result to pile on the pressure on Cook. And that whatever he does between now and whenever, he just can't win. I read of fans on here who gave him three games at the end of October, then two games at the end of November to save his skin. And prior to last Saturday it was all about the next five games being key etc etc. This short-term approach to trying to finding a winning lottery ticket just ain't gonna work. Other fans keep pointing to Wigan and whoever else as justification for why we should be doing better cos 'they also bought a load of players in the summer'. Yes, it doesn't always work like that at clubs. Were fans still wanting Cook to being in an assistant immediately after the 4-0 win at Pompey? I've said it once and I'll say it again. The season for me started post August when Celina and Morsy were in the team. Judge us - and Cook - after Xmas. We may not go up automatically, or via the play offs. It may well take time. Just cos we bought in a load of players doesn't mean we have a right to be up near the top - nor does it mean another manager will be able to do that with this squad. I see fans talking about 'yeah, but the owners wouldn't have brought in all these players if it wasn't the aim to go straight up this season'. Perhaps, but they won't be going anywhere soon. Be patient. Things are changing for the better.

It's been a little frustrating but I'm happy overall with how things are going, I'm probably going to be called a happy clapper/happy with mediocrity etc, but I've thoroughly enjoyed my days out at PR this season with my son and he has loved it, especially watching him enjoy it with all his innocence.

Watching bits of Norwich yesterday I do wonder why there is this desperation to reach the promised land.

I can't be arsed to give myself an aneurism like some on here over analysing every result.

Agendas by homer_123 31 Oct 2021 15:32
Just to be clear...a lot of people talking about agendas in the past 48 hours or so.

The way I see it...as Town fans our agendas are all exactly the same.

We want the Club to be as successful as possible, regardless of who's playing, managing or owning the Club.

There are some on here who just look for the negatives. That's all they do. I'm not sure why. Maybe it's the old adage "A pessimist is never disappointed."

I wish they'd stop trying to bring the rest of us down with them though.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

That's great to hear about the little Hypester. My son is LOVING it, too. He's so looking forward to the Wycombe game (although we'll be in one of the home stands over the touchline). Rewind to last season and he could not be arsed with Ipswich, despite going to a number of games. I get a lot of abuse on here (not that I give a rat's arse) but we have turned into the Pot Noodle brigade - win ASAP, promotion ASAP. It's not going to happen like that.

In fairness....Town fans are incredibly patient. Cook and the players have all said as much....given our current situation, there is plenty of things to debate and discuss about where we are, why and what we should do going forward.

If I may, I find it equally frustrating that some will just look and discuss only the positives. This is a forum, and an excellent one.

There has been some very good football played at times both home and away this season - the frustration comes from not capitalising on what we are clearly capable of. I've enjoyed this season as well, for the most part.

That's fair enough but would you say we are a little too eager as a fanbase when it comes to expecting things to be a lot better than they are actually are? In other words, huge investment (at this level) MUST MEAN promotion or else? I don't get it. Step by step, is how it should be, surely? The expectancy levels on Cook are massive. And those who want him out, how long are you gonna give the new incumbent. One season? Two? So why not stick with Cook?

This is my first season with my Son and his has given me a little bit more perspective, maybe I'm viewing from more of an emotional tag due to this as opposed to dissecting every result and Cooks performance or non performance.

But having spent the past 10 odd years being in a flux about the state of everything associated with ITFC it's quite refreshing not having my blood pressure boil week in week out.

Rome wasn't built in a day.

You are no different to the fans you are moaning about, you are just giving him a few extra matches.

It really isn’t about Paul Cook it is about our club. The majority want him to succeed even if only because they want success for the team they support. There is only one measurement of success and that is promotion. Stay in this division and next seasons team will be weaker than the current one.

I'm not a 100 points, 100 goals person.

But I did expect us to be higher in the league than we currently are and also for Cook to have addressed some of the issues from last season.

That's a fair point. I'm not sure next season's team will be weaker if we stay in this division. Presumably you mean minus Bonne (if he doesn't sign) and Celina? Looking at how the owners operate, we could well have 2 or 3 permanent additions we might be surprised at, while I wouldn't give up hope on Bonne signing.

Definitely not wrong.

But you will be told you are completely wrong.

Then those that tell you that you are completely wrong will proceed to tell you in 30 posts why they hold this view and why you are indeed, wrong (still).

Then they will tell you what the owners are thinking.

The owners previously 'wouldn't stand for this by mid October' but now its 'definitely by end of November'...

My advice would be too enjoy the aspects of the club that are now better, enjoy the extra goals and higher level of quality players. Enjoy the improved matchday atmosphere and if you like Cook and feel he will get there, continue back him.

Just as we don't "have a right to be up near the top" without earning it, Cook won't have a right to extra time unless he earns it. No one is "waiting for a bad result to pile pressure on Cook", that pressure simply exists because of where we are in the league.

Every game the atmosphere in the ground is positive from the outset and at worst goes a bit quiet if we have a setback. That's the absolute maximum Cook and the team are going to get anywhere in football. I'm not Cook Out, I'm hopeful we're on an up turn, but this special pleading about his failures thus far is really really silly.

It's all about fine margins and unfortunately we're programmed it seems to be the wrong side of those fine margins

Not sure if it's a mindset ,a weakness or a habit

The main problem for me is the fact that we don't have a Plan B to catch a game up or to close a game down

Plenty of work still to be done and I truly hope PC carries us over the line - whatever that line might be

Really isn't 'only one measurement of success'.

Not going up this season in no way ensures the team will be weaker. With our backing it will likely improve.

Without going over ground that's already been covered, what would Cook need to do to get extra time in your opinion? I'm talking about results....plain and simple, tell me what he needs to achieve?

Can’t speak for all fans but you’re wrong in my opinion.

I am waiting for Cook to string a few wins together.

I am so fed up with us being completely tosh all the time. I’m fed up with this league and for not being able to mount a challenge on the top 2, let alone top 6.

We absolutely need to be getting results in the next 4 games though. To not make ground, let alone lose ground would be absolutely awful for our plight this season.

These unmeasurable improvements (that don't have a statistic to attach to or interrogate) are a huge deal for many fans.....general atmosphere, fans invested in the team, a range of likeable players who our kids are latching on to, everyone feeling part of the club again, seeing the club improve off the pitch etc

These things hold a huge amount of weight for a lot of people as at the end of the day, how you experience the football with your mates or family is one of the biggest drivers for going or supporting.

These are the reasons that people may invest in Cook for longer than others feel is appropriate, or why many fans want stability and just aren't as desperate as others to get out of the division at Gamechangers first attempt.

A lot of fans have the same opinion as you, which is fair enough. I just disagree with it! I'm fed up with a load of things, too, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel (which I couldn't see when Evans was at the helm). Realistically, however (rightly or wrongly) we might be in this division next season.

Improve consistency of performances and results, put together a decent winning run, against the better teams as well as those struggling.

I think we're on the way to achieving that, with 17 points gained from the last 27 available. But things are still fragile, every setback is magnified by the first phase of the season, which has put us on the back foot as far as League position is concerned and made the job ahead (of at least finishing in the top six) all the harder.

It's especially frustrating as the same things keep happening - a looseness in defence letting leads slip, good chances not converted into on-target shots through lack of composure. There needs to be progress on that, too.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Unfortunately the League Table that is in widest use is the one which started in August. Cook understands that, and he understood it when he ripped up last season's successful defence. It's right that it takes time for a wholly new team to bed in, but nobody forced him to bin quite so many players.

But in any event, your position is not so different to many. Judging Cook at the end of October (now) means forming a view 20 months into his contract. You are asking that he be judged 22 months into his contract (after Xmas). That's really not an unacceptable difference of opinion. Each to his/her own.

We will have some better results, and some worse results. That's inevitable when you're a mid table team, which is what we are, and what we have been each year in League One. At present there's no real evidence of that changing. Evidence such as beating someone in the top ten, or such as putting ourselves closer to the playoffs than the relegation zone, or such as not throwing away more points from a winning position than the total number of points on the board. Fans who point out true facts are not waiting for failure. They don't need to wait - they are merely pointing at it.
