Does anyone own a portable phone charger? 11:35 - Jul 14 with 1278 viewsSTYG

Looking for something for an iPhone that can be taken on away trips this season.

Seen some that look like they are battery operated and others than you seem to charge up by USB and then they retain their charge and can be used to charge your phone?

Anyone got one, are they any good and any brands you'd recommend? I'll destroy my phone battery on a coach to Accrington or Fleetwood with Netflix before I've even got close to the ground!

Seen loads from £15 to £75 and no idea if you get what you pay for or if they are all vaguely similar.

Cheers

Indeed.

I got one for about £8-10 from B&M that does about 3 charges of my iPhone 12 from a fully charged portable.

Generally the more you pay the bigger the battery. If you just want something that tops up your phone on a day trip then go for something cheap.

Coaches and trains drain battery due to the GPS, try turning that off when moving as the phone is using a lot of energy working out where you are all journey.

For some reason I have hundreds of these. Anker is a really good brand - but the one I use the most was a freebie from some conference I attended.

Have a look at the powerbanks with solar panels though - the tech is much better now and they charge pretty quickly. Good for planet too innit

I have a charging case. Quite chunky but does the job, holds about two full charges.

Mine isn't even that chunky tbh, though I am.

I'd echo the sentiments here they do just work. I'd suggest getting one with 10,000 mah as a starting point that'll cover all your charging needs with some left over for your mates.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/DETENG-10000mAh-Portable-Intelligent-Flashlight/dp/B08D I've got one like this that fits in a pocket at a push and certainly a coat pocket.

They're great for setting PBs on Strava though!

Any of the GETIHU chargers are solid. Get 4 or 5 charges each time before having to recharge it.

I remember at V festival 2009, there were dozens of us literally just standing around for ages at portable charging stations whilst our phone charged. Madness really looking back.

Would recommend, I have a few. As someone else said, 10,000 MaH is a good starting point, will charge 3 or 4 iphones from flat.

Generally, the higher MaH (more charging capacity) leads to bigger devices so if you want something to easily slip in your pocket, go for a lower MaH. Hence why i have a few - I use the bigger one on longer trips when I would have a bag to keep it in.

My solar one is OK - it has 3 panels that form the case. It keeps the internal battery relatively well topped up but charging it from flat would take a very long time of direct sunshine. Generally just charge it on the mains (every couple of months) and keep it in the conservatory to top up the phone of an evening.
