Jewell spent as much if not more than any manager in our history while leaving us with a poor squad,
McCarthy spent comparatively little and still built up the squad value by the end. Loans were critical for us to compete then. |  |

Wouldn’t be surprised if we didn’t get Hirst on a perm, then we get another top draw young striker on loan from an EPL team. Celina would obviously be a loan as well, the way it’s longing out gives me the suggestion he will end up here. |  |

I think more than anything it's the club working hard on a transfer all summer.
Did we ever work hard on a transfer under Evans, most of the time it was who's available and if they're free even better.
Mick picked out some gems for cheap, Waghorn the best example of one we wouldn't usually have expected during those dark days but so often it was frees or every up and coming young irishman whom Mick would declare were going to be really, really good players for us, next Daryl Murphy etc only for them to sit in the reserves for 2 or 3 years and get released.
