They really weren't that bad, they sat back but broke well and did less sh1thousery than Portsmouth did. It was tedious but it was the right approach for them.
The mid-90s saw the likes of Tranmere come and try that every season, Bury, Birmingham too. And Grimsby in April 1992 were the absolute worst. |  |

They had a clear game plan.
Defend in numbers, protect the flanks, hit on the break.
To be fair, their defensive play was excellent at times until we got the first, after that it was always only going one way, but whilst they still had a point they defended well. Their keepers distribution was spot on too and one can see how they managed to get up the league with this tactic. Not all teams have the resources to break down these defensive style teams. |  |
