Doubt it. To sell it to the smaller clubs there would likely have to be some form of revenue sharing from ifollow income.

We do need to look at the bigger picture here, because the same problem of being a smaller club in a division of those with bigger fanbases will apply should we make it to the Premier League. Some of that revenue on a divisional basis should rightly be shared.

True, we will have to worry about Champions League rights by then.

Surprisingly, he just tweeted the opposite and said streaming is the future. (Silly old sod has protected his tweets so can’t link it here)

Lol what. You think they’re doing this for those reasons? Apart from the last one. Here’s something that will definitely happen in the next few years; some PL games in the States and Middle East. Only got to look at the people buying clubs to see that.

Yes, it's changes in revenue sharing starting I think in the early 80s which mean that clubs like Derby, Forest and us (all successful in the 70s) are unlikely ever to be challenging in the Premiership again. Leicester are the exception which proves the rule. [Post edited 12 Oct 2022 11:41]

I don't think it's why, but will be the outcome - the package to have both Sky and BT is so much money, if PL sold directly via a Netflix or something then it would be much cheaper to end user

Sadly I think you’re right; PL owners see the NFL doing their international game nonsense and they’ll want a piece of that pie. More money upon more money so we can be treated to Forest v Villa, a dismal game with barely a shot on target

Neither here nor there, if it happens I hope it wouldn’t affect attendances, would be nice to watch away games I can’t make legitimately and in good quality though.

The key difference being that the NFL doesn’t have to compete with domestic leagues of other countries - well not in a major way. I doubt if the MLS or any other league would welcome a PL match being played on their turf. I can see each match being streamed but within geographical constraints. For example audiences won’t be able to stream Accrington v Ipswich within fifty miles of the ground etc etc. I appreciate that there are ways around this. I do think that it’s high time this happens - a lot of fans for whatever reasons can’t make the matches but still consider themselves to support the club and will gladly pay £10 (or whatever) to watch football.

Make the live coverage more expensive than a match day ticket, which should help with attendances.

So people who live some way from the ground will have to pay more for a ‘ticket’ plus the added costs of petrol or train tickets. That’ll only benefit people who’ve never lived away from Ipswich or near to it.

My theory is the introduction of the streaming will introduce a level of internal competition within each fixture eg stream vs attend, and thus will force down ticket prices in the grounds. Hopefully the streaming will increase overall income for clubs and shift some of the revenue generation off the live match going punter. Then again, I’m no economist but I hope so

I meant the TV ticket should be more expensive.
