If he really got 102 he would never have withdrawn. He rivals Trump in his acquaintance with the truth. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Wait, you mean it was a lie? How out of character. Edit: Quite pleasing to see him rush back from holiday thinking he'd be the saviour, then to have this humiliating climbdown. haha. [Post edited 23 Oct 2022 21:17]

I wouldn't be surprised if this was just a 'water tester' for after the next election for the 150 Kilos of Racist Mince In A 100 Kilo Suit. Once the Tories lose the next election he'll think he can't coast in on a 'save the Tories' ticket. He's going to be a disruptive and unpleasant influence on the Tories for some time yet, ala Trump with the Republicans. They've now got a significant far-right element they'll feel the need to pander to. [Post edited 23 Oct 2022 21:16]

Sunak has a big call to make. I hope he sends JRM in particular back to the back benches, but does he risk appearing bitter like Truss did when she came in. Cleverly is said to be particularly vulnerable

Cleverly is the only person in public life who's middle name is 'not very'. [Post edited 23 Oct 2022 21:31]

Nothing better than watching Jacob Rees-Mogg this morning chuckling at the idea that Boris wouldn't be running. He's never given a damn about anyone but himself. As soon as it's become apparent he might not win, or that it would be bad for his brand, he's done a runner. Off to enjoy a few more holidays I expect at our expense. The quicker he's out of politics the better. Waste of space.

59 so it appears. 59 Tory MPs prepared to back a man under investigation by the privileges committee; a man proven to have broken the law while PM; a man who was chased out due to his dishonesty and corruption. It is a significant proportion of their party who will now look to rally around the next ERG candidate instead. Don't think this means Sunak is home and dry or that there won't be another worse candidate elected.

Sunak has already said that he will build a cabinet "of all the talents". Could be the smallest cabinet ever. Edit: correct typo [Post edited 23 Oct 2022 21:30]

Once the privilges committe publishes its report he will be finished with Parliament. Whether he stays around for what else is coming down the line is a moot point. I cannot see Putin lasting that long in power so that is ruled out. i believe Barbados does not have any extradition with the UK. Or perhaps he could be made Governor of the Bahamas as was someone of the same political leanings, Edward VIII

I think Sharma and Wallace (insofar as the latter "leant towards" Johnson) are fairly safe. The others, maybe not so.
