Hasenhuttl gone. on 12:11 - Nov 7 with 2494 views | Garv | Shame. Sounds a bit backward but when you consider that he suffered two 9-0 defeats in his time and was never really under that much pressure (until now) he must have been doing something right. Had some massive wins against the big clubs and always played good progressive football.

Hasenhuttl gone. on 12:19 - Nov 7 with 2450 views | BlueandTruesince82 | They have been v patchy under him but haven't really progressed. Losing Ings hasn't helped a team that struggle for goals. Last year the had Borja on loan but this year you'd say those goals haven't been replaced

But would Southampton have given him the elbow knowing that a poor record in recruitment funding will put off the best managerial candidates ? Maybe they feel that they can no longer compete in the top division and are prepared to follow in the path of Burnley, Sheffield United, West Brom and Nodge with the intention to become a yo-yo club at best, or maybe there was an underlying problem with the level of motivation that Ralph Hasenhuttl is capable of...

They finished 16th, 11th, 15th and 15th during his time there and currently sit 18th. Backwards indeed

Would he be happy working for a club that have gates less than half of those at Southampton ? There is the television money too of course, but he would be going from a club that at least had a hope of emulating Leicester as title contenders at some point (and that looked like happening a couple of seasons ago for a while) or being a tricky game for any other team in the division (in the way Palace are) to an outfit that looks scarcely sustainable as a leading side.

Hasenhuttl gone. on 14:01 - Nov 7 with 2125 views | Kentish_Tractor | I feel really sorry for Southampton. They have had fantastic recruitment and an an excellent academy over the years, but every time they find a great player (including some genuine world class players) they have to sell. Thinking back to recent times, you could have Virgil van Dijk Sadio Mané Adam Lallana Danny Ings Pierre-Emile Höjbjerg Gareth Bale, Luke Shaw and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain lost at young ages too. You can't keep selling Ferraris and buying Volkswagens if you want to thrive in the Premier league.

Hasenhuttl gone. on 14:08 - Nov 7 with 2094 views | LankHenners | Fairly brave transfer strategy to refresh the squad with younger players each summer, can certainly pay off medium term if it works right but tricky to get really competitive if you're not really upgrading on quality. His style of management probably has a shelf life of about now as well - physically demanding with an emphasis on pressing, high tempo, work rate etc. hard to keep drilling into players after a while if there's no evidential progress. One of those where a fresh start for him and the team is required.

Outside the top two or three clubs they and Brighton have been the best sides to watch in the PL over the last three years or so. They're one I genuinely hope to see do well.

Didn't he leave Luton for Stoke, struggled, sacked and back to Luton?

Hasenhuttl gone. on 17:31 - Nov 7 with 1645 views | SlippinJimmyJuan | Have always been a bit bemused by him. Pundits have given him praise but Saints always look a side without identity to me. Having said that, they have tried to bring youth through and he has definitely worked on a tight budget for the Prem. Overall, it's a bit 'meh', just like Southampton's on-going Premier League existence.
