Football programmes were different in the 1970s 13:06 - Dec 29 with 2235 views | Illinoisblue | People writing in to ask which shampoo players use, males from all over the country asking for female pen pals. I’d like to think some long and happy relationships came from that pen pal activity…. Most bizarrely of all, this Town programme prints a request from a Villa fan in Stowmarket looking to organize travel to games for other Suffolk-based Villa fans. Different times.

Tomas Holy stood Head and Shoulders above everyone else. Mick McCarthy would be Pantene because that’s how much he spent on the squad.

Agreed. And the exec boxes now, with the advertising boards on top look tacky and a bit tired.

It’s always amusing to watch The Big Match Revisited and hear Brian Moore reading out the exact addresses of members of the public who had written in. Also, can anybody identify the Town player with some taping on his knee in the image on the front of that programme? Two classic kits on show there.

Looks like Les Tibbott who would come in as a full-back whenever Burley or Mills were injured

You have to remember even in the 70s thousands of people didn't have a home phone so the only way of contacting was a letter, hence the name and address was required

I was clearing out some stuff the other day and found that exact same programme, funnily enough. My old man was a Villa fan and that was one of the first senior games he took me to.

Football programmes were different in the 1970s on 18:05 - Dec 29 with 1445 views | StochesStotasBlewe | Was given a bundle of 70,s programmes as a Christmas present. Having got rid of mine to a collector for a small fee some years ago, have enjoyed perusing through them these last few days. The grammar is quite old school and the articles within them rather dated but by God, the team sheets on the back of some of them are a who’s who of the great and the good of the time. Lovely stuff.
| We have no village green, or a shop.
It's very, very quiet.
I can walk to the pub. |
