I'm cutting down on sugar actually, and looking to make some orange and pistachio cupcakes and some almond pancakes with cherries. One recipe says 100g ground almonds, the other says 100g of almond flour. Which is a bit odd if they're the same thing.

Maybe a difference in the coarseness? Ground almonds are quite coarse.

In fairness Cotts you'd probably start swearing and uttering rude words if someone started to grind you up

Sugar or carbs? If it's sugar/refined carbs, then I would just use wholemeal flour or oat flour. Almond flour is crap for baking IMO and obviously adds a lot of fat (albeit mostly healthy fat). I guess 100g isn't a massive amount though. Or use potato flour and get one of your 5 a day?

Baking question on 11:34 - Jan 31 with 1815 views | blueasfook | "Making homemade almond flour is very simple! It requires only 1 ingredient, 1 blender, and 5 minutes. Simply add blanched almonds to a blender and blitz until a fine, powdery flour is achieved. You know you’ve gone too far if it starts turning to almond butter instead. Not only is it simple to make, but homemade almond flour tastes fresher and is usually more cost-effective than storebought." You're welcome. You should ask a grown up to show you how to use Google. It really is amazing for finding stuff out you know.

Are you the I in openAI ChatGPT Chatbot? This is the answer you get if you ask it what the difference between ground almonds and almond flour is "Ground almonds and almond flour are similar, but not the same. Ground almonds are whole almonds that have been ground into a coarse meal, whereas almond flour is made from blanched almonds that have been ground into a fine powder. The texture of the two is different, and they are used in different ways in cooking and baking."

My bad. I still think they are used interchangeably by most people though!

Sugar. Hence how I said "sugar". Michael Mosley mentioned on one of his BBC podcasts (Just One Thing) that you should swap out obviously sugary things like cakes, sweets, chocolate, fizzy pop etc. for fruit... to avoid that spike and crash that sugar gives you. So I'm giving it a go.

I asked it who Ipswich Town are and it told me 'Ipswich Town Football Club is a professional football club based in Ipswich, England. They play in the English Football League Championship'. Very smart, it's 6 months ahead of its time.

No need to be quite so prickly. I asked because there is very little sugar even in white flour so if you are specifically targeting sugar then swapping flour for almond flour will not help. If you were cutting refined carbs as well then that would clearly help.

I'm just following a recipe, I didn't even think the type of flour was a major point re sugar, just thought I should stick to the recipe rather than swapping in some different flour. And asked on here as despite what Blueas thinks, google was inconclusive (I saw a source that said - like you said - that ground and flour are the same thing).
