Roy Keane, not least for being pretty rude & unkind to one of our upcoming young lads who'd previously hero-worshipped him (think it was Owen Garvan, but might have been Shane Supple) - according to an article written by the player themselves, after they'd left I think.

I take Ryorry’s point about Keane but on the toss of a coin I chose Lambert. He was a full of wind fraud. Utterly clueless and annoying with it. I guess I didn’t choose Keane because his post match interviews were always entertaining, but given how cr@p he was, it’s a thin reason.

Keane. Not only a bad manager but set the tone for everything that followed. Although Lambert runs him a close second. From his cynical wining and dining of club legends to distract from his failings, his shameless gaslighting of both Marcus Evans AND fans and the way he not only relegated us but completely destroyed any kind of spirit around the club.

Both Keane and Lambert were frauds, but Lambert was a dishonest fraud.
Keane has admitted he did a crap job here. Lambert never will. It will always be someone else's fault for Lambert.

And apart from McCarthy, yes the football wasn't the best but he saved us from near certain relegation and got us into the playoffs on a show string budget. For me that easily makes him the best manager in the Evans era.

I firmly believe that the money Jim ruined him. And at the time, two million was a lot of money in the championship.

Being a terrible manager and vile person leaves very little scope for me.
No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

For me, the two things combined - his unpleasantnes as a person (eg the Owen Garvan incident) inevitably made him a very poor man manager - obviously a key factor in football management.

Jewell was the biggest fraud of the lot. Basically just said whatever felt like the right answer yet did the opposite. Right from the start when he said hed always played with wingers and then never played any or bought any. Or when he said he had learned from his mistakes at Derby by trying to change too much too quickly, then signed 14 new players in his first summer. Or when he bought a whole load of central midfielders and played them in a diamond system as if that was always the plan (Bullard as holding midfielder!!). Or when none of the quick fix expensive and ageing signings were working out, telling fans that they needed to have patience as it was a long term plan (after losing 4-0 at Burnley). Or when two months later he admitted that it had been a quick fix but that NOW he was going to play youth and build for the long term. Only to then gradually drop them aall gain as the season progressed in favour of the players that were all out of contract in the summer. Or when he brought in about 5 loanees in a week and said it was all part of the long term plan, but sometimes you needed to do short term to get to the long term. Or something.
All the off pitch lack of discipline during his time here- Taylor, Bullard, Chopra etc. Wasting the entire £8m transfer fee from Connor Wickham on players who were gone in 18 months. Probably spending more money than Keane did, certainly on wages, on a short term plan that failed and then leaving us adrift at the bottom of the division for his long term plan.

I didn’t like Mick much tbh. But compared to the two idiots that went before and the three that followed, he was the god of managers.
Talk about thin pickings.
If I’m honest, I thought at the time we needed somebody better than Jim. We got worse, a lot worse. Jim cared, was passionate, still learning and was treated abominably. I hope he returns to the club one day and is treated properly and shown the appreciation his time at the club deserves.

Lambert was not great for telling us what we were seeing, when it appeared something else. But with Jewell, it was so blatant and he just stuck to his position. Until he needed a new one and he moved to that as if everyone would forget. For all that Keane failed, at least some of his players gave us some good long term value even if they were expensive. Jewell left us with pretty much nothing at all- except Chambers. And his development of the younger players was non-existent, at least Keane gave several of them a chance and appeared to trust in them, until he lost patience, but Jewell just never really seemed to give any of them game time. Except for Smith and Hyam for a brief period.
