We’re such a ‘Street wise’ team now 20:05 - Mar 11 with 2154 views | clive_baker | No petulance, cheap free kicks, cheap concession of possession. Such a well oiled side, even when we’re not quite at it we maintain such a level of consistency. I think we’ve really evolved through this season in so many respect, but that’s the one that pleases me most. Intelligent fouls, decision making, game management. Happy to get in the refs ear when we need to, take it to the corner, take a bit of time over throw ins etc. On 75 minutes I saw Morsy tell Hirst to go down, knowing he was being taken off. Trainer on, eat up a bit of time and kill some of the momentum. The ‘dark arts’ that good teams know how to do well but it feels like we’ve rarely if ever seen it since Mick was in charge.

How many more games until he is unleashed again? To be fair though, most of his yellows are petulant niggles which are avoidable in my opinion.

But agree on the rest of what you say, something seems to have clicked in the last 5/6 weeks, and whatever it is, is working

Massimo taking the pressure off him? He doesn’t feel the need to charge around and can get on with the captaincy.

Insane how a bloke goes from getting a yellow every game to now not looking close to it. Shows it can be done, he’s such a fcking good player

I’m sure he take another for the team at some point. There’s been a few where he’s done a tactical foul to prevent a breakaway. He’s also the most streetwise of our players, the little things like walking away with the ball to prevent a quick free kick, and falling over the ball if he’s tackled to prevent losing possession.

I hope we're a couple of goals to the good by halftime against Shrewsbury so we can take him off as you just know he'll end up getting a card in the dying moments of the game if not! | | | | Login to get fewer ads

One. He needs to come through Shrewsbury unscathed.

Similar to Robbie Savage thing on yellows, at one point he was most booked PL player ever and had never got a second yellow to be sent off

If you watch it back as soon as the ref blow Morsy is in the bottom of the picture jesturing to the rest of the lads to get over to Mckenna. A planned time out to set up for the last 15 minutes. Quality stuff

It's great to see game management being used wisely. Too many times since we've been in this division we've seen this tactic used against us very effectively. How many times have we been comfortably in control of a game only to have a opposition player go down and their team taking a time out to stop the flow of the game and allow the manager to coach the team? Feels like a lot to me.
We’re such a ‘Street wise’ team now on 11:07 - Mar 12 with 1120 views | LankHenners | One of the things I hated about us under Lambert is we were full of stupid cheap fouls and petulant bookings, the manager refused to drive standards and it showed on the pitch. Clearly something McKenna's worked on as the season's gone on. He was very unhappy about the 2nd goal we conceded at Portsmouth because Burns gave them such a needless free kick which they scored from and has made unspecific references to other incidents at times. Makes the players believe if they don't give the opponent gimmes in terms of opportunities to hurt us then we can get one over them.

Couldn’t agree more, it was horrendous. I think there were factors - frustration, fitness etc, but it was painful under Lambert. It’s not about individual errors, footballers will make mistakes and that’s life, but it’s the extent to which they felt so petulant and avoidable a lot of the time. Leaving in a stray leg, lazy tackles, cheap free kicks in dangerous areas, mindless bookings. Guess that’s what happens when a club lacks any sort of leadership throughout.

We'd need to send off to NASA to calculate how he saw that as a foul let alone a yellow. I did like how once he failed to book Bertie big boll0cks for kicking the ball away, we did it too.

The ref was very card happy. Broadhead’s was lazy, that probably isn’t one that KM would be overly impressed with but equally it was in an area of the pitch where it wasn’t going to hurt us. There’s good yellows and bad yellows, by and large we’ve had good ones lately. Humphreys at MK being a good example of that, clever foul and stopped a potentially dangerous break. I don’t mind players getting in the refs ear occasionally. There’s a way to do it of course, and a time and place, but as long as that line is towed sensibly I don’t have any issue with it. Also right now Morsy can’t do it for us.
