Now we see how important that win against Barnsley really was 20:13 - May 7 with 3080 viewsringwoodblue

In the end, we only finished two points ahead of Wendies so our win at Barnsley was the difference between automatic promotion and the playoffs.

Reasonable to say, that a draw would have sufficed 😁

Both their game and ours would have been completely different if automatic promotion was still available.

Truly impaired.

I wouldn’t go down this route or we’ll start agonising about the draws against Cheltenham and Bristol Rovers.

I know the guys had one eye on their holidays but I always felt Fleetwood and Cheltenham would be our toughest games in the run in

Agreed - it is what it is. Every team had its share of rubbish refs, luck, you name it. The good thing is 46 games: no hiding place.

If I have to pick key moments, my three are Bolton away and Derby away and grinding out that win against Port Vale.

Yes, not sure how today’s match could be compared to when automatic promotion hadn’t already been sealed.

It was the two wins at pizzaborough and Barnsley that took us there. Never wanted to rely on the last game and after their wobble wendies have barely faltered again plus of course Plymouth kept going to the end

Had we needed a result today, then we would have prepared differently and I believe would have got a better performance and result.

Promotion was the goal. Job done last week.

Thank you Forest Green.

And in the end, those last 4 minutes at Charlton didn’t come back to bite us.

I felt in my bones just after 5pm on 17th September that it might be early days, but that game was a 6-pointer, and the shocking behaviour by the SW fans, appalling refereeing and consequent result could have a major impact on our season .

Who knows, they may just have done us a favour.

Looks a good point but it what happens over the whole season that counts as every team will look back on a couple of games and say we threw away points there . Lincoln at home , Charlton away ect. for us , Forest Green for Wed. If we really needed to win yesterday we would have been up for it .

Not forgetting the belief that coursed through the players and fans after the Bolton and Derby games. After the run we've been on, it's quite hard to recall just how tough those games were going to be. In the end, we bossed them both as we stepped up.
Brilliant stuff!

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.
