It’s grim. How clubs like Morecambe (and most EFL L1/L2 clubs in fairness) can keep going is testament to their perseverance. It’s not healthy. It doesn’t help the clubs, it doesn’t help the players and therefore it doesn’t help the fans.

There is a good case to be argued for EFL2 to be expanded and split into two regional leagues.

On Morecambe just been reading that they offered Cole Stockton a new contract on £2,000 a week. He will be picked up by a League 1 outfit, someone like Lincoln. As you say not a good situation for anyone.

It should be. I find it genuinely ridiculous that clubs on the breadline are expected to fund travel from say Carlisle to Crawley.

Just have -

Premier League
Championship
League One North and League One South (20 teams in each)

Non League

Crazy that Jephcott is being released. Remember he looked really good for them a year or two back, and he must still be pretty young.

They and the likes of Accrington have punched above their weight for a few years but will now suffer a correction and be replaced by the likes of Wrexham, Bradford etc.

Mayor and grant were the ones that caught my eye. Must have turned down contracts.

I’m sure Plymouth were in the same situation at start of the season, 7 players registered, they did ok

Mayor is based up north (Manchester area). It was a massive surprise he went to Plymouth at the time. We actually had him down at Portman Road and the training ground, before he went on to join Plymouth.

Lordy, can you imagine how difficult it would be to get out of League One with 40 teams vying for promotion?

This year we probably would have failed, or at least have to had gone through the play offs, Plymouth up from the South, Owls from the North.

Half our games this year were against tiny little clubs, imagine how much worse it would be if Leagues One and Two were merged into two regional League Ones.

Can't say I am a fan of the idea from a football perspective.

On the positive side, we'd never play Accrington again.

If for whatever reason he doesn't agree a new contract at Plymouth, I think we should go after Niall Ennis. Whenever I've seen him play, I've been impressed by his hold-up play and technique. He was their best player at Portman Road in January.

Obviously Hirst is first choice but hopefully he's on Ashton/McKenna's list of alternatives.

His form dipped a lot since they went to a one up front formation. He'll probably get an upper League One or lower League Two move because there a lot of teams who play 3-5-2 but unfortunately for him Plymouth aren't one of them.

Yep I said this on another thread. He had a great finish to the season and fits the mould of player we have been in for up to now ie. decent age with great ability and scope for development, but yet with a decent amount of experience and development already undertaken (eg Chaplin/Burns etc) and could do very well at Championship level.
