Kasper Schmeichel 18:38 - May 28 with 2342 views | Mercian | There were good keepers on the market last summer like Henderson, Neto and Leno. I think C Walton would have got into their team this season. Not replacing him has to go down as gross misconduct.

So many teams under 40 points. The intra division gaps are widening.
Kasper Schmeichel on 21:24 - May 28 with 1940 views | Chrisd | It wasn’t just Schmeichel’s goalkeeping ability they missed, he was a leader too and an imposing figure in that dressing room. Ward showed early doors he wasn’t good enough. Iversen came in and did a very decent job towards the back end of the season, he’s a better keeper than Ward IMO, how he was kept out of the team for so long surprised me? Schmeichel was big shoes to fill, probably bigger than they all realised at LCFC. [Post edited 28 May 2023 21:30]

Ward has always been a third choice premier league keeper at best. Iverson is arguably a second choice goalkeeper. As the original poster said, there were decent keepers on the market. Neto at Bournemouth has massively contributed to them staying up.

Usually I would scoff at 'gross misconduct' being applied to football management unless the situation is particularly egregious - though in this case it's hard to disagree.

Kasper Schmeichel on 08:21 - May 29 with 1425 views | ElephantintheRoom | A bit similar to some other club closer to home who lost their goalie to a career as a property developing bench warmer - and went from the edge of the chumps league to relegation in one season

Kasper Schmeichel on 09:16 - May 29 with 1321 views | textbackup | I wish I bookmarked the link from here, years and years ago I said KS is someone we should look at. The experts on here told me I was just looking at his surname and he’d amount to nothing.

Kasper Schmeichel on 10:52 - May 29 with 1206 views | Bent_double | I remember watching MoTD at the start of the season, not knowing that KS had gone, and thinking,'is Shmeichel injured? they better hope he's back soon, or they've got problems.' No idea why they persisted with Ward for so long, but definitely a major factor in their relegation.

He was a big loss to Leicester, but the owners were reluctant to give a big contact to a 35 year old, although the y did give Vardy a 2 year contract.

That doesn’t hold water for me, 50% of the eight could be described as established Premier league teams. What is widening it the gap to the top four.
