It wasn’t just Schmeichel’s goalkeeping ability they missed, he was a leader too and an imposing figure in that dressing room. Ward showed early doors he wasn’t good enough. Iversen came in and did a very decent job towards the back end of the season, he’s a better keeper than Ward IMO, how he was kept out of the team for so long surprised me? Schmeichel was big shoes to fill, probably bigger than they all realised at LCFC. [Post edited 28 May 2023 21:30]

Ward has always been a third choice premier league keeper at best. Iverson is arguably a second choice goalkeeper. As the original poster said, there were decent keepers on the market. Neto at Bournemouth has massively contributed to them staying up. |  | | |

Without a doubt that decision was Leicester signing on the dotted line for relegation. Usually I would scoff at 'gross misconduct' being applied to football management unless the situation is particularly egregious - though in this case it's hard to disagree. |  |

I remember watching MoTD at the start of the season, not knowing that KS had gone, and thinking,'is Shmeichel injured? they better hope he's back soon, or they've got problems.'
No idea why they persisted with Ward for so long, but definitely a major factor in their relegation. |  |

He was a big loss to Leicester, but the owners were reluctant to give a big contact to a 35 year old, although the y did give Vardy a 2 year contract. |  |

That doesn’t hold water for me, 50% of the eight could be described as established Premier league teams. What is widening it the gap to the top four. |  |
