If that's how much everton want then we should look elsewhere, we would surely not want to go anywhere near that figure and there must be other available options significantly cheaper who can do a good job

I wouldn't be ever so surprised if the figures previously mentioned are nearish the mark. But £7m? If someone will pay it, good luck to them, but I can't see us paying it, I really can't.

I suppose there's an argument that we need quality over quantity, and we've already got players who would cost a good couple of million to replace, and we want to go to the bracket above that. But still, £7m? I don't think so.

Who says they do? And, if they did, I think Ashton wouldn't need telling to move on.

Although of the three mentioned, Sims, Hirst and Surridge, only Sims has so far shown that he seems to be a goalscorer. He is also a couple of years younger than the others, and so, has better potential sell-on value. Doesn't seem as mobile as the other two though.

I would imagine we are in the (very) low £millions shop. along with most sides in this division.

Leicester and a few others can afford to browse the £5-10m shop for their purchases, but that is not where I would expect us to be found.

It has three tell tale signs that the story might not be gospel:
(i) "could"
(ii) "believed"
(iii) "Carlton Palmer"

Sorry, couldn't resist it, I do like Carlton Palmer. Cult hero, innit.

I think you could argue he might prove worth it if you're a club like Leicester, or if you're Swansea and going to get 2 or 3 times that for Piroe. I think he looks terrific and he's obviously still very young. If he plays a big part in getting a club up and takes to the premier league then who knows what he'll be worth.

But where we are right now it feels excessive. It's not like we're getting big money for someone and looking for a replacement.

No way we’d pay anything like that for a pretty unproven player however he has looked. A few games for Sunderland and a goal v Chelsea and he’s 7 million?? I think he’d be a good player for us in the champ but actually thought he was a bit out of his depth in some of his prem sub appearances. 3-3.5 mill would seem about right.

If someone pays that much for him then well done Everton, but I hope it’s not us personally

£7m is nothing, we're loaded. Show some ambition Mr Evans and stump up some cash for a change. Etc.

If it were Simms or Hirst, I would go for Hirst. The whole is more than the sum of the parts. Hirst has shown that he integrates really well with the rest of the squad, and is incredibly athletic, and has already gelled in our set up. Surely we could get Hirst for £4M? Not saying Simms is not a good player, I'm sure he would be great as well, but we are not fishing in a £7M pond.

Hard to know for sure what kind of pond we are fishing in, tbf... Selling clubs know we desperately "need" a striker, so we are going to get played a bit on price.Especially as our likely targets will be on other clubs wish lists..
Having paid 1.5 million for a left back, in L1. It wouldn't shock me if we shelled 5-6 million on a quality striker, with future sell on potential.. We might end up with no choice. Especially after missing out on Hirst last season. I'm sure they'll want to get something done, re a striker, as soon as viably possible.

It won't be 7 million upfront, that'll include promotion and other add ons. I can weirdly see it happening.

Hard to make a profit on a player you've shelled out £5-6m on. You're basically banking on them being one of the best 10 players in the division at some point during their contract.

Word was that we didn't think Simms was worth even £3.5m a few weeks ago, seems strange that we'd go to nearly double that.

My view is it's Everton trying to get add ons and swifter payment, they are broke.

Your worth is really whatever what somebody is willing to pay.

Not sure we will be willing to go that high, and I can't see many others in this league and certainly not any Prem teams. Lecester, Southampton and Leeds who might not baulk at the price will have no interest. Swaps for Swansea - they are holding out for 15m not sure they will be thrilled to only get 8 plus Simms that's gonna limit what they can do with it

Let the Simms games continue!

Hard to gauge what kind of fees the owners are prepared to fund. I guess £7m is the going rate for a rope Champ level striker, and a small sum when you consider the ££ prize of promotion to the Prem. That said there are other areas that need strengthening so it feels a bit toppy.

Maybe Everton want payback for us getting Broadhead for an absolute steal of a fee!

Assuming the contract is 3-4 years. I'd be banking on that 5-6m player, going some way to helping us get promoted during their contract..If we come close and our striker hits 18-20 goals firing us to the playoffs. Then theres every chance their value rises.
Realistically, more than 4 years in Championship, and the whole project will have hit the buffers. Especially with McKenna likely gone.

I'm sure we'd happily write a few big promotion clause IOUs but not sure why Everton would go for that. We're roughly 10th-favourites for promotion, so from their perspective it's not a great bet.

I think you pay extra to get your business done earlier in the window. We should stick to our valuation of Simms and only go back in later in the window if he's still available, and we still need him.

We will have to move on to another target as I think we will get our business done early to afford max time to KMcK with the new full squad.

Everton one of those so called big clubs think they can mess around the ITFCs (who are they?) of this world and they always have someone from Sky Sports hanging around the gates to Goodison or their training ground ten minutes before the transfer window closes, taxi for whoever.

I think KMcK and MA will be safely tucked up in bed by then.

It's one thing for us to believe in our club, quite another for Everton to make a sober judgement and have significant money ride on it.

So what would you say if Simms is worth £20+ million after just one season ? What if he is the difference between a mid table team and a top 6 team ?

Yes...worth anything up to £7 million I say.
