They played a good game and really striffled us for 45. They then looked knackered for 20 mins after the break, then we looked knackered after that.

I think that is our hardest game ticked off. Well done lads.

You think that game yesterday was harder than Leicester, Leeds or Southampton away are going to be?

Sunderland might just scrape top 6 if they are lucky and the get their main strikers back.

Far harder games to come than that one yesterday.

Disagree. A few good individuals but we'll play better teams who create chances than them.

A really good test for us though - physically and mentally and brilliant to get the 3pts.

I thought they were great.

We may play better teams this season football wise but their combination of pressing, over turning us in midfield combined with having wide options was really great stuff.

The fact we got 3 points was a magnificent result from us.

Yup, don't think we'll play many better teams than them, some very good players.

Agreed. If Sunderland can get hold of a reliable goalscorer they are going to be a serious force. An away win at a play off team from last season is a terrific result. The only slight concern was the last 20 minutes when it looked like they had the extra man, not the other way round. But I think our tiredness was largely as a result of the huge amount of work done defensively in that first 25 minutes or so.

I thought their striker was a real weakness. You could see he's a talented young lad and there was a bit of cultural difference from Benfica perhaps but either he's not up to it yet/they don't know how to use him well.

The way they pressed and isolated Morsy/Luongo was very clever from Mogga and really set the nerves amongst the fans it seems. Once we overcame that, I thought you could see the balance of play really move our way.

Ekwah looks a tidy player too, seems to have the kind of traits I really like in a player and I thought for all the concerns about our back 5 theirs was there to be go at plenty of times.

Ekwah was quality. Seemed to be absolutely everywhere and always showing for the ball. He's a good sized unit as well and added some physical presence in what was otherwise a fairly lightweight midfield. I imagine they spent a fair few quid to bring him in, looked a future Prem played to me.

ex-West Ham I believe, was a good player who looked very mobile, physical and technical.

Really agree.

They have their main striker back from injury, they win that game. Scoring in the blitzkreig start Sunderland came with.

Looking back just now at the Town TV highlights, despite their midfield and game domination, Town carved out by far the larger set of clear chances.

And as you state those chances started to increase once Morsy and Luongo settled into it.

Yep, could be misremembering but sure I read somewhere that they didn't pay that much for him with a lot of his 'cost' tied up in future clauses etc.

Was bossing the game really for much of the first half, strong in the tackle, recovered the ball well and don't think he played a bad pass. Morsy and Luongo did well to limit his impact as the game went on.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

Leicester, Leeds, Southampton, Middlesbrough (at the Riverside and once they get going), Coventry for me.

I'm very glad to have got Sunderland away out of the way successfully whilst some of their bigger guns up front are missing/haven't been signed though

Good bit of business if that's the case. Very much the type of player and deal I would imagine we'd hope to be able to find.

Not sure many of those looked much better than Sunderland yesterday, other than maybe Southampton who played a poor Wednesday team.

They’ve been poor at home and set pieces for some time - there are definitely harder tests but it’s always a difficult place to go. Great to get it chalked off and silence the fans for such large periods of the game. First 35 minutes was there’s as was the last 10 of normal time. Other than that, I thought we tempered their threat quite well. I think it has to be said that even if we are under the cosh for large periods in the first half, I always back Pert and KM to find a solution.

Great start. We’re up and running and most importantly, we look a threat!

They were missing their main striker in Stewart and it showed. They also chose youth over experience and were down to 10 men once they added the experience. It was notable that with those ten men they gave us a tough test to hang onto the lead.

Tougher tests? Certainly Leicester and Southampton but I would expect any top 6 side at full strength will be a tougher test. Sunderland created little out of their possession (and we should take some credit for that too) and were down to 10 men. It is also notable that Sunderland did not have great home form last season. However, they also only lost there to top teams.

I would say Sunderland are of the 10 best in this league, to get three points away there was a great start especially when they had us under it to begin with.

That was by no means our hardest game. That’s average Championship.
