Am sure one of the blue family/apologists will be along at some point to tell us that absolutely no one they know (relative/friend/colleagues) would have ever used the "I can smell cannabis" line as an excuse to stop and search someone without due cause.
One thing from the IOPC report yesterday - black people are 9 times more likely to be stopped and searched by the police. The incidents of drugs found in S&S are higher amongst white people.

Either that has also been quashed as false, though no mentions anywhere… or the Met have knelt down & apologised for officers trying to do their job. To be clear everything that happened once the car stopped was unacceptable. Lying about what you’ve done/seen is worse than almost anything. Honesty & integrity is in question there is no coming back. before certain people jump on me they deserve to be sacked based on what’s been reported, but that might be a reason why met officers feel let down by seniors who seem very happy throwing officers under the bus

The IOPC report basically is clear that the stop was not a problem (although the red light was shown not to be red)
The 2 coppers (who were fired) stated that they could smell cannabis (to justify the search) and that was shown to be a lie.
The 3 other coppers (involved in the stop) were thus not found guilty of misconduct.
Some proper bed wetting amongst ex/current police - suspect they are ones who think it legitimate to use "I can smell cannabis" to justify a search irrespective of whether they can smell cannabis. [Post edited 26 Oct 2023 14:32]

The Met is pretty rotten at the moment and needs cleaning up.
Personally I think that is an almost impossible job.
Something made those officers stop that car and then subsequently lie about smelling canabis. It's the underlying culture that allowed them to even think that would be ok is the problem.

Yep, the usual suspects are incandescent that 2 bent officer have been sacked for dishonesty.
Read the 15 page findings of the disciplinary earlier (Gavin Hale tweeted them) and was clear they didn't believe the two sacked officers were honest in their statements/interviews.
But that won't stop the "police family" going into meltdown. Speaks volumes of how so many people are complicit in dodgy policing, defending the indefensible at every opportunity.
They are appealing the decision so quite possible they end up with a nice fat cheque and their jobs back...we will see

Link through to read the full 15 page finding. Per earlier comment 3 coppers smelled cannabis. The guy who smelt it didn't claim it was on the athlete. The other two did and maintained that in their evidence.

I am generally what you'd call pro law enforcement/establishment etc. But, on this occasion the 2 officer's that have been sacked, deserve to be... The stop, in isolation and due to bad driving was possibly justified... however the fact that these officers lied about smelling cannabis as a justification to use stop and search powers is unacceptable.. they were investigated and rightfully dismissed as a result of that investigation - due process was followed and the right outcome reached...
In summary, the athletes, driving erratically deserved to be stopped for that reason.. think everyone can agree on that, it's what happened after that was wrong.. |  | | |

Your post prompted me to go look at the stats which showed 274k white s&s and 64k black S&S. It also showed a whole lot more statistics which were not easy to see through.

Agree, there's many decent coppers. I had to deal with the cops last weekend as had some youths hanging around our neighbourhood causing trouble. The PC and WPC who came to see me were great. That evening two of the little scrotes got picked up. | |
