Update for anyone who cares.
I cancelled my direct debit as I saw on Instagram comments that some people were still being charged. I received an automated email from the company who takes the payments on behalf of Energie, threatening a fine/fee as cancelling direct debits is apparently in violation of the terms of the agreement when you join Energie.
I called them this morning and they have put a freeze on members' payments until April, as they are aware of the gym having closed down and they have received no update from the gym.
They said to ignore the email as it was just an automated thing.
They said they are getting all of their information and updates from people like myself phoning up, and the owner of the gym has not been giving any information.
They said if/when the gym re-opens members who have cancelled their direct debit can re-instate it and re-open their membership should they wish.
Doesn't look good though based on no updates being given to anyone at all.
Time to look for a new gym for me. [Post edited 4 Jan 2024 12:23]

What struck me about that was that 'Regina Peachey' couldn't possibly be a real person. It turns out she is and is portfolio manager for the East of England Co-Op. So I guess they are the landlords. |  |

Dunno, but I know a gym owner who recently sold his gym that he'd owned for years and was making as much money from the interest off the money he'd sold it for as he was making from members fees.. |  | | |
