I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I would wipe MND from the planet before cancer.

There's treatments for cancer, seemingly nothing stops MND in any kind of meaningful way. It's a horrific disease.

Did some fantastic charity work even when at his weakest.

People like him deserve hero, or legend status

A Rugby league true legend and a fantastic campaigner for MND awareness and fund raiser for research.
R.I.P Rob, we will always remember you.

I think I’d prefer to see them both wiped from the planet. I have seen what brilliant work improving cancer survival rates looks like in the past few months and how awful it can be when the disease gets beyond treatment, visiting St Elizabeth’s last year. I’ve also seen what MND looks like up close too - truly ghastly disease with as you point out, no cure for it.

Both awful, both need research and ever improving treatments. ‘There isn’t the money’. Yes there is.

There was an interview a few weeks ago with his wife and her love and devotion for Rob was incredibly heartwarming. Goes without saying all his family and friends will be devastated by his passing.

Such a horrible horrible disease.

A giant of a man and an illness bourn with bravery and dignity. My thoughts are with his family and his very close friend Kevin Sinfield.

RIP Rob.

The guy did so much to raise the profile of the disease and raise funds to help support research into this vile disease. Hopefully one day we’ll find a way of halting or maybe even reversing the symptoms. I lost my mum to MND, so to see what Rob did, with the support of his amazing family and friends (none more so than his wife Lindsey and best buddy Kevin Sinfield), fills me with admiration for them. Bloody legends.

RIP Rob, you can rest easy now fella.

Agreed with both , need to be wiped out , I remember the cancer research charity football coupon from the 70s , that’s 50 years ago and the agent who came round your house to collect your money for the cancer charity used to say to my old dad , the amount of money we collect nationally will hopefully one day eradicate this awful disease, one of probably thousands of cancer collecting charities and 50 years later seemingly very little progress in wiping it out completely…….very sad and forever worrying for so so many .

Sorry to hear that about your mum. It is an evil disease. Have a mate 2 and a half years into his journey with it. Horrendous. Mentally as sharp as ever, his body withering away seemingly by the week. Unable to dress or feed himself, needs full time carers to watch he doesn’t fall over. It’s awful. He’s planning a ‘living wake’ in a few months time. Hopefully before the disease gets to his lungs.

All good thanks. It was a while ago now, but it’s not easy coming to terms seeing someone’s body break down while they’re still fully aware of what’s going on. Horrible disease.

Yeah, it’s grim. Sounds like a lovely idea to have a living wake while he can. Make the most of the moments he’s got left

A colleague of mine once deceived it as 'your body decomposing whilst your mind stays'.

Awful, awful disease.

That is painfully accurate. We meet every week to go out for breakfast; the only unofficial agreement we have is we don’t talk about his condition. His carer comes along too, to feed him. Unlimited respect for people who care for others.

A savage and evil illness like one or two others. AT least Rob is at rest and out of pain. It's who is left behind who are suffering family and close friends.

I was never into rugby league but years ago a mate took me to a Castleford v Leeds game. The teams came out and in the Leeds team was this tiny little player, probably exacerbated because all the other players were much bigger than him. My mate told me it was Rob Burrow ( he had only been playing a couple of years then) and I should watch him as he's brilliant. I couldn't believe how Burrow played that day, not the obvious sidesteps, finding space, fast running but the tenacious tackles, hard hitting tackles - a powerhouse

I often wondered how he made it into the sport. I see people post on this site about how we need physical players in the team, referencing 6 feet+, big muscled players, and not even interested in small built 5 feet tall players. But rugby league is even more physical, I'm sure he spent his entire youth career facing adversity around 'you're not big enough'. It demonstrates an amazing strength to just make a career in that sport.

It never surprised me he fought MND with the same passion.

RIP Rob Burrow.
