Not completely squeaky clean. She was rapped over the knuckles a few years ago for giving a tour of the Commons for £150 to raise some campaign funding. Got told it gave her an "unfair advantage over other election candidates", if you believe wiki.
Lol. Nevermind the Tories receiving £millions in donations from racists or from people who then received juicy public contracts. That £150 could make all the difference (which was handed back, unlike the dodgy Tory donation).
I imagine Labour and most other parties have got some skeletons in their donor closet too. I think there's a good argument for allocating them public funds for campaigning, but massively reducing the amount. They don't need millions to get their message across when pressers are free. | |

They could have refused to join Cameron, but that would probably have meant another General Election, which the public didn't want & the Lib Dems would probably have been punished at the polls. Naturally, Clegg & the party wanted a taste of power. unfortunately, as junior partners in a coalition, they had to accept many unpalatable polices, notably student tuition fees & they were treated harshly. One of the big problems of coalitions and PR. |  |

Clegg said pre election that he would talk to the party that had the most seats first in the event of a hung parliament. He then said that as soon as he was shown the state of the economy by the civil servants in the economy he was in board with the cuts that needed to be made. Bear in mind that Darling was going to cut harder and faster than Thatcher if Labour won in 2010.
Where Clegg made a mistake was to insist that he had ministers in each department. Had he demanded three departments made up only of Lib Dems, environment for example, he could have pointed to their record in 2015. | |
