I suspect this is not a message to other premier league clubs - no way do they not know these guys are up for sale - it is more likely to be for the benefit of Hull fans, showing everyone that while they are selling their best players, they are at least getting a decent price for them,

Is it just me that thinks this 'flushing out interest' thing is a bit ridiculous? I mean, as if any club which has the financial clout to buy players like this doesn't already have a dossier or at least a profile of then and know that they're available and whether or not they want to put in an offer. I think it just says "We're desperate to sell." |  |

Funny isn't it.
The same as posting stuff 'alerts' other clubs.
As if Everton are sat there with no idea who Philogene is and see us being interested so they quickly contact Hull to offer £25m.
Every club has a ton of players in each position, of each age bracket, valuation, wage demands etc and they work through them.
Sometimes your #3 target will move on because he's #1 for someone else but you're still after your own #1 and #2.
Clubs generally know who is sniffing around who and of course they'll make some noise to try and get a better deal elsewhere when they might be close to accepting something else.
Stuff like this is generally positive because it suggests we could be close or have agreed something and it's a last roll of the dice for someone else to come in with something even better or structured better. [Post edited 3 Jul 2024 19:05]

He has previously said similar, that he ideally doesn't want to sell any player but he won't stop a player from progressing their career and/or if they want to leave. But conversely he wants the best price for a player.
Maybe Ipswich made their offer formal for both today, and maybe its the first formal offer from any club. He has then asked both players today, and one or both have told him they want to leave/talk with Ipswich. Hence he has now decided both can be sold but he wants the most he can get for them, and the best way is a bidding war.
Similar with Gray/Leeds. Spurs rumoured to be interested in Gray but no formal offer, Brentford make formal offer and it drags Spurs out from the background. Remember the rumour was Leeds had accepted £35m from Brentford, just not the terms. Spurs come out from the background and Leeds end up with a £40m deal, boom £5m more by basically saying yes we will sell this player now |  | | |

Well yeah, but those other clubs wouldn't be aware that we'd made any bids unless it's leaked to the press.
It may then result in another club pushing ahead with their interest at risk of potentially missing out on the player | |
