Why so few tickets sold for OGC Nice friendly? 08:14 - Aug 8 with 4705 viewsunstableblue

Morning!

Couple of days to go to our final pre-season friendly and only a relatively small percentage of tickets are sold in the 3 stands that are open.

Only 3 blocks have any significant sales.

Strange one as I thought Fortuna was close to sell out?

Are we expecting a late rush?! Is it summer holidays times.

Would be a little disappointing for McKenna and the boys if there isn’t a late surge of sales.

3 of us going in the upper North. Are you going?

Speaking for me, I'm at a wedding on Saturday. Tel didn't fancy going on his own. Perhaps with only a week to go until the big kick-off, people are prioritising other stuff?

I think you’re probably right. It’s peak summer holiday time, with families away from East Anglia, weddings etc. it’s extra money with Liverpool and a long season incoming. Also Fortuna was a bit of a damp squib* and this may have put some off. Pre-season friendlies can be just that. Although I thought the strong Hoffenheim display may have inspired a few.

Hopefully a couple of signings today/tomorrow may ignite some interest, and there’s bound to be a late flurry of ticket sales.

* I’m never sure where damp squib actually comes from!: “A squib is a miniature explosive device used in a wide range of industries, from special effects to military applications. They can be used to generate mechanical force to shatter or propel various materials; and for pyrotechnic effects for film and live theatrics.“

“While most modern squibs used by professionals are insulated from moisture, older uninsulated squibs needed to be kept dry in order to ignite, thus a "damp squib" was literally one that failed to perform because it got wet.”

I’ll get my coat.

Yep, I'm going.

Bought three more tickets for daughter and her friends last night as well, but as you say, there were loads of tickets available.

My lad and 7 mates went to watch fortuna, and they're not interested in repeating it. Maybe similar elsewhere.

Friendlies are crap compared to actual games, and I've got it for a few quid on towntv anyway.

£20 innit?

Got away games to pay for, starting with a trip to Man City with train travel. I assume lots of people in the same boat.

Just a bit too expensive for a friendly.

Should’ve been £5/£10 tickets across the board but good that they made it cheaper than Fortuna. 12:30KO may have put some off.

Will be there, Cobbold Lower.

This season will be cheaper than last - 38 games instead of 46, and spread over a longer period of time.

Speaking from personal experience, I’ve always found watching one pre season game enough so have picked the most attractive one. Maybe if we sign a couple of players today / tomorrow we’ll see a few more tickets told.

(…. And maybe people are worried about the thought of us fielding an U21 side!)

Same here. Fortuna was a bit tedious. Only went to see the new signings and with no more of note, not much point.

Like any true fan, I've formed my opinion of them all after 45 mins. (which is of course correct)

In the middle of holiday season and £20 for a friendly is a bit of a pisstake really.

If we suddenly had a couple of signings through the door in the next 24 hours then maybe you'd see a small rise in sales if people wanted to have a good look at them in the flesh but can't see us selling much more than we have already.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

It's not £20.

Maybe if the club want to increase attendances at these games they could give supporters a point towards getting tickets for future games

Yep.

They should let everyone in for free.

And give them a free shirt, 10 pints and a pie while they're at it.

I was going to suggest just dropping the price by £5 across the board but that's actually a better idea.

Me and 6 others upper north. Looks like a few of us are going to be up there.

It's okay as this game will be better than the Fortuna game and we all come away watching a good win.

Anyway how was the Fortuna game not good. Two good teams playing nice football I thought.
