Match of The Day. 23:59 - Aug 31 with 4130 viewsMercian

If the highlights are a fair reflection of the whole match there seemed to be very little between the teams if any. After being well beaten albeit with good performances against two of the world's elite teams we have matched a good mid-table side in Fulham. I feel we have a fighting chance of staying up and this team will fight. I'm optimistic.

If anything they (the highlights) probably did us a bit of a disservice.

I always find it funny that some moments aren’t deemed big enough to show but then they show them during the analysis like the Ogbene chance. In fact I wonder if he could have taken it around the GK the way he was running onto it?

Can imagine it’s a difficult job to edit the highlights of a 90 min game into a few minutes of TV.

Part of the reason they showed that in the analysis would be because they didn’t have time in the actual highlights.

I think had the ball been a bit slower he wouldn’t taken it round and poked it home.

They also missed the classic Jack Clarke shot

But they did show it in the recap.

It's rubbish never even showed Clarkes effort other week never showed the penalty we should have had at city.

To be fair, with the exception of our trade mark 10 minutes of madness which you’ll get savagely punished for in the premier league, we’ve been pretty consistent with our performances, and I think that’s the minimum level we can play at, once theses new players bed in, and McKenna works out the best starting 11 and the best bench, I’m actually confident of a bottom half of mid table finish.

I’ve not seen MOTD or a replay, but live he just seemed to hesitate for half a second which made him 2nd favourite. Shame as it was a nice bit of play to put him in.

I've had little interest in Match of the Day in our wildness years but it seems so cold, clinical and sterile compared to the early 2000s. And there seems to be a desperation not to rock the boat or question referees compared to before - particularly for the clubs outside the top six (our 'penalty' being omitted last week, no discussion of the handball appeals for Forest or Wolves this week). It's a show which seems to have lost it's heart and drive.

Nice little mention for Delap on MOTD (n/t) by Ryorry 1 Sep 2024 9:58
Problem with that being it was the * only * mention we got - and even then it was apparently because some of the pundits played against his Dad.

The actual game didn’t get even get one comment from any of them. Not a single one.
Absolutely bizarre. What a poor programme.

maybe they got the same memo from PGMOL the clubs got, and so deliberately avoid questioning the refs publically even when they get things wrong still.

Totally agree with this. The Beeb is desperate to hang on to their diminishing rights.

Overall there was very little between the sides. I haven't seen the highlights but we certainly had the best of the second half. They were making last-ditch fouls to prevent us getting through and we came close on a few occasions.

They've had 60 years (well minus the brief Townsend tactics van era) to practice it.

I don't think the highlights showed the game properly at all, plus you had Pearce saying in comms in the 2nd half the Fulham looked likeliest to win 🤔

I half think they just look at the stats and build a packaged narrative around that. Which doesn't show the pressure Town were creating.

Plus their analysis on Delap, on his header chance I thought was unfair, as on the replay it looks a miss he should bury due to the angle of the camera positon, as opposed to a good chance but in the wrong position to ever go goalwards.

If their football reporter Steal My Toilet has anything to do with the packaging of the highlights, it is always likely to represent us in a poor light.
