You’re allowed to touch your opponent in football ffs

He didn’t impede him and the contact was nowhere near enough to send him to ground. I hate modern football.

So did I. No doubt he made a massive meal out of it but when you dangle your leg like that in the box you’re asking for trouble, and it certainly wasn’t a clear error that VAR should intervene with.

For me there's a massive amount of simulation there

Contrast that to the Chaplin assault from Leicester, we aren't getting the rub of these at the moment

It was a comical decision, a clear dive. Some of the yellows as well , Cajuste for example - did he even make contact ? Compare as you say to Chaplin v Leicester, what a joke.

Forest better side Tbf but modern football is sad really.

The only Muff in Town.

Yeah - the state of the game as it is is any contact and a bit of drama from the forward will ge a nailed on pen.

People can moan at the ref all they want but thought we got caught into playing Forest's game a bit today - we were letting them give the ref a decision to make with a few frustrated tackles, blocks or pulls of the shirt.

Think the main thing to analyse about the penalty is it starting from a poor loss of possession.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

I agree, but it was very similar to the one on Clarke against Everton, just no consistency.

The incident on Chaplin should’ve been a pen. Clarke against Everton shouldn’t have been overturned by VAR, that’s not what it’s there for and to watch it 50 times and then conclude the ref made a clear & obvious mistake is absolute lunacy. I’d argue Davis should’ve had one at Man City too. VAR is a shambles and refs are pony, and we’ve been on the wrong side of decisions more than the right side. None of that means that one today wasn’t a penalty though. I think there’s contact and I think Szmodics makes that very easy for the ref to give. At the other end I would expect it given.

Look at how you put that "thers contact" "makes it easy to give".

Rather than "it was a foul".

It was a dive and VAR should be dealing with it.

For sure it's a mess. I thought the Everton decision was a clear misuse of VAR and should have remained a penalty, but a bit different in the type of contact as it involved Clarke's shooting backswing (unusual incident I thought). This one looked a more conventional foul, as Szmodics has stuck his leg into a challenge and tapped the dribbler's leg as they're running forwards. These are penalities in today's game, you just aren't allowed to knock into the leg of an attacker who's in control of the ball, even if the contact you make is light. Leicester was the most obvious of obvious penalties and I'm still angry about it aha. Like Clive I thought Man City was a penalty too; if the officials bothered to review it, I can only think they (wrongly) decided Leif was no longer in control of the ball and was fairly blocked off it by the bloke who only had eyes for our player.

I disagree there, we'd be used to not getting penalties for things like that

If we had got a penalty the other way, Forest fans would be far from impressed

Have you watched it on TV?
I saw it twice, in replays, isn’t 100% as nailed on a pen as I’ve seen.
He makes contact, in the area. Pen

Not sure, the contact isn’t enough to fall over clearly, Szmodics put his foot in and pulls it back, it was literally 2 socks brushing together lightly if that, obviously nowhere near enough for anyone to fall over, let alone fly up into the air.

A very obvious dive missed.

I have and I thought the replays showed quite clearly him diving ridiculously

There might be 'contact' but it doesn't cause him to go down like that.

It was a penalty but there could also have been a yellow for simulation - an outcome I’d like to se a few times if it cuts down on the malarkey.

Absolutely. I do wish people would stop trying to find ways of claiming that we're hard done by. In my view it was a foul in the box. It's agonising, but it's a penalty.

It's fine margins in this league. But sadly, the fine margins are going against us more often than not. We're not good enough. Only by a little, but sadly that's the position.

One win in 13 is the reality.

There was a foul in the box and a penalty was given. It's not VAR's fault. VAR did not overturn the ref. If VAR had overturned it, and we'd been the attacking team, we'd have seen the usual "I thought VAR was only supposed to be there for absolute howlers..." routine.

Kieran will rightly be focussing on the ways in which we're not currently good enough. That's the way it should be. He won't be sitting around trying to find all sorts of other things to blame.
