Kieffer Moore 14:41 - Dec 29 with 3052 viewsChurchman

Just been watching Sheffield Utd v WBA. Entertaining game. I’ve wondered more than once whether or not we should have tried to keep Moore.

Watching Kieffer in this game, it was a waste of wondering. Maybe it’s the way Sheffield play, but he didn’t look the player he did for us. Cumbersome, slow and ineffectual. Still, he’s scored five in seventeen so he’s clearly contributing. Premier League level? Not for me.

To be fair, he looked those things for us, but he came up with moments of quality and gave us the physicality we needed. Did you see the goals he scored at Cardiff the other week? Especially the first, top class.

Right now you'd absolutely have him, but that's just because we close to bare bones up front. Have to hope we can find better in January.

Always thought he'd be a good option to bring in.

Decent at defending set pieces. And could do a job for 20-30mins.

I'm guessing we didn't want 3 players who want to be first choice.

We don't know the situation. He might have wanted to play every week.

I’ve only seen today’s game. I thought he might have been useful to us before seeing that. He looked easy meat for Premier League defenders on today’s showing. Lumbering. We ought to be able to do better, even if it’s a limited, but younger fitter player with size.

Hope over expectation.

He would have been a better option than Al Hamadi but we didn't expect to be relying on him. By the time it was clear we weren't signing Broja, Moore was no longer an option. I am sure we will get someone better than Moore in January but we need to get whoever it is done early.

It depends if we are planning for the Championship or to stay in the PL. I’m in pessimist mode at the moment so think the former in which case you go for young, fit, potential whose happy coming off the bench.

Given I’ve no idea, it’ll be interesting to see what they do.

If we had Moore for this season, Al Hamadi would have gone on loan and be developing more than he is doing what he is doing. I don't think a few 10-20 minutes off the bench in the Premier League are really benefitting him or us.

He's had a terrible season. Bullet dodged.

"Cumbersome, slow and ineffectual" will be on his tombstone. I was amazed he had as much impact as he did last season for us and I hold my hands up that I was wrong about him being a waste of a signing. But he's back playing to type this season.

I think we helped him massively by playing on the front foot and having so many people in support of him at the top end of the pitch. He'd have been awful for us this year if we'd have expected him to lead breaks and drive at defences like Delap does.

Full credit to Kieffer. He got every ounce out of his ability and has made a really good career for himself. I saw him at PR when MM brought him here and I fell about laughing. There was more chance of me making Pope than Moore having a decent pro career.

Oops, that lasted well.

Mind you, my dad and I saw John Wark’s debut. Too small, not enough of anything. Will disappear to Hartlepool or somewhere. Nothing player. My dad in later years got to know former Ipswich Scout Ron Gray very well. I asked my dad if he ever told Mr Gray of our ‘assessments’. Response? ‘You’ve got to be joking!’ Fair enough…

Was that against Leeds in the cup? Or did he feature before then?

It was the 1975 6th Rd 3rd replay against Leeds at Filbert Street on a Thursday night, having played two days earlier against at Filbert St. We won 3-2 and Woods scored the goal of the season to win it.

He's a bit 'journeyman' these days. I suspect he'll be very near the top of the loan list for clubs wanting a promotion push in January until his career ends.

Sorry, down-arrowed by mistake.

Kieff popped up with some important goals last season, but for the most part, he was slow, poor in the air as he doesn’t jump, had poor movement and controls it further than most people can kick it.

I pointed this out when we signed him last January and received something like 75 down-arrows!

Definitely a bullet dodged….. although you have to credit him for forging a career from such a limited skill-set.

We’re probably both unlikely to make a career change into scouting lol!
