Well deserved. Most gifted *and* passionate player I’ve ever seen live.

We need a clone of him in his prime in our current midfield!

I often wonder how him and Ashton would work together… best guess would be, explosive

(When I say often, I think twice I’ve thought that)

I can only imagine the abuse he'd be getting on here if he was in our midfield now...

Found myself with nothing better to do yesterday and watching the extra time in this game. Appreciate it was 90+ minutes, but my word the standard was poor.

i've got doubts if he would be able to handle the physicality.

Super football brain, but running was never a strong point.

Yeah, but he could suddenly blast one in out of nothing. Our players seem to need 3000 touches and passes to get the ball back to our center half from an attacking position these days!

Jim is a lovely fella. Badly treated by the club under ME. I hope those bridges have been rebuilt.

I think he made up for it with his battling, sheer refusal to give up, and football brain.

But yes, I guess I’m forgetting how much the EPL has changed in the past 25 years*.

*Hang on - 25 years? **Twenty five years**?! What??!! Where the hell did they go?!

He single-handedly won us the play-off semi in 2000. Will never forget his second leg hat-trick. He was just superb that night. I was in Churchmans and remember him shaping up to take his penalty right in front of us. A couple of the Bolton players were getting in his face giving him sh1t to try to put him off but he just put it away cool as you like.

The only man to be club Captain and manager for Town, deserves every bit of praise he gets. A decade worth of service I won't forget at this club.

It's that which I always remember when mention of him comes up - he absolutely drove us on like a demon when tiredness & fading were inevitably starting to kick in amongst the rest of the team.

As you say, I don't think we'd have won it without him - he was possessed with a spirit that absolutely no way on god's earth was he going to let us lose our place in the final.

Didn't know that about the pen. You were a lucky man to see the game live!

I think it was around March or April of 2001, we beat Coventry at home in that wonderful season and someone played a brilliant ball through to Jim but he just didn’t have the legs to get there. I remember it as the North rose to applaud him in appreciation. A nice moment.

Which player actually gets a lot of abuse on here? You get the odd poster who is over-the-top, but most criticism of players in here tends to be constructive rather than plain abuse.

I remember that moment as if it were yesterday.

Jim has also mentioned this in interviews.

The Curse lifted when he came back for the first time after ME sold the majority of the club to the yanks.

Not suggesting Magic cursed the club but tis how karma (and karmuppence in this life) works.

There were a fair few weirdos who insisted on calling him thing like 'sideways Jim' because of his weird habit of looking to retain the ball if a killer pass wasn't on rather than just lumping it.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.
