... summer transfer target.

Poll: We’ve got super KM, he knows exactly what we need. Woolfie at the back…

I'd be very surprised by this.

He's struggled, consistently, when stepping up a level - his season in Belgium wasn't great. That said, he's had 2 decent seasons recently in the Scottish Prem but this year, goals wise, is struggling.

I think his link up play is generally good, certainly his work rate is high. At over 6ft, he's not overly physical if memory serves, could be wrong but not sure he wins many duals on that basis.

It would be a purchase for the shorter term than longer though and I don't see him as a player that would usurp Hirst.

30 by season opener. Seems highly unlikely to me.

No chance to old to late.
More chance if Delap leaves for big money and we are in the championship it will be the like of Kone from Wycombe even at a pretty penny young big and physical unless we have a new manager with a different approach.

Hirst, Kone and Shankland wouldn't be too shabby in terms of #9 options, no?

It wouldn't be a purchase. He's out of contract this summer.

We're going to need a poacher in our arsenal next season. He fits that bill. Probably a good option in games where teams play a low block against us.

Purchase or not, it's one for the there and now. Not against those types of signings.

Of course it is. So why would you be very surprised by it then? You can't have a squad full of 22 year olds, especially in the Championship. Shankland is known for having a good mentality, good in the dressing room, tireless worker. I think he'd be a savvy pick-up on a free personally.

Different from what we have, for sure. It would indicate a slight change in approach.

Yep, his work rate and attitude are known to be good. No issues there - not sure he's the type of 'focal' striker in the mould of Delap or Hirst, so may see a different approach when he plays.

I'd still be surprised though, if I'm honest - not sure KM would veer that far away from our approach up top.

He's more of a Ladapo-style #9 than a Hirst i.e. poacher rather than pressing forward. But there will be games in a 46-game season where a poacher can sniff out half-chances and turn draws into wins. I'm not saying he's our direct Delap replacement, but he'd be a very fine asset in our set of attacking options IMO.

If we are in the market for that third senior striker that we've struggled to add over about five windows he would fit the bill (in the Championship). Certainly knows where the goal is.

Hasn't he been loosely linked for the last couple of years?

I assume the phrase "Saudi Pro League" will end all other interest, especially for a journeyman about to turn 30.

Isn't Sammy that poacher, or so his last season's strike-rate seems to indicate?

Hirst has an injury history, Kone is totally unproven in the Championship, and Shankland would be a terrible signing for a team trying to get promoted from the Championship. I'd say we'd struggle if those were our three options.

Hopefully, this is nonsense, and unless we are suddenly in financial problems I am unaware of, there's no way we should be sniffing around a 30-year-old with 5 goals in Scotland to his name this season.

Doesn't sound great to me to be honest. Kone I wouldn't mind as a wildcard 3rd option who if comes good moves up the pecking order. But even supposedly someone bid £6 mil in Jan so a big risk that for me.

Shankland wouldn't be keen on. That's a classic scores 3-5 goals waste of money and only losing value at his age.

I don’t think we’ll be spending upwards of £6m on a third choice striker. I’d have thought if Kone is one we want we’d be signing him to compete with Hirst.

Exactly my point. I wouldn't mind signing him as 3rd striker (meaning we need to sign someone proven as well). If true about the £6 mil then that's a huge risk.

I do think there is a player in Kone but too risky to go into next season without a more proven striker at the level (if Hirst got injured that's huge risk).

2 blokes on my team at work (Hearts ST holders) both are absolutely convinced Hearts is his level and no way he’d make it in the Championship.

They reckon we should be trying to poach James Wilson as he’s the real deal. (Just been called up to the full Scotland squad too I think)

No thank you.

Good finisher, but athletically looks nowhere near what we would normally like.
