That we are getting Kompanyd. McKenna’s principles are great and have got us so far, but sometimes you have to sacrifice them to see a game out as opposed to keeping the same formation for the full 90 every week. If he sticks with us for next season then great, we have plenty to work with - if he ends up somewhere else I will be pissed off

We keep the same formation not out of dogmatism, but because it is a shape which has been drilled and worked on in exquisite detail over a long period, and is therefore likely the best option.

Do you think we concede late goals so often if we change shape? You don’t think one result would have been different had we moved to a 5 back?

We did that vs Brentford.. went well.

This system has us operating at a fairly competitive level. How many games this season did we deserve more from. Leicester, United, Villa, Brentford. The common denominator in all of those games as to why we didn't get points, is not the system, Its individual mistakes, fine margins.

Leicester-Bad refereeing, Morsy failing to clear, Burns getting knocked off the ball
United-Wonder saves from Onana
Villa, Greaves passes the ball right to Rogers
Brentford- Muric loses the cross.

I could go on and on. This system is fine. We just keep shooting ourself in the foot. So many times this season. its fine margins.

You’ve just said Brentford went well and then acknowledged that we only lost to an individual error

Wasnt fine margins at Forest or vs Palace, we could have played both those games for 180 mins and wouldnt have scored in either

We are in a 5 at the back sometimes, you don't seem to understand modern football, not at this level anyway. Can't believe you still need it explained to you after 3 Years of McKenna being here, that our shape is flexible, hence why Burns,Tuanzebe and Donacien have been such valuable assets. Or maybe you've only just shown up?

But as just pointed out. For most of that game we had Burns/Ogbene playing as a hybrid RW/RWB.

It's like when people used to say, have we tried 2 up top, at a team who haven't scored in a while, like it makes a difference. We play a back 3/5 anyway.

Seems McKenna is the guy getting the heat today as opposed to the keeper who quite evidently gave a goal away...

Lol so you're just saying that you don't understand what you've been seeing for the last 2 years then, and proud of it apparently.

Not sure anyone that says 'swivel' deserves to have their opinion respected.

Eh. Annoyed at Muric too. Think McKenna’s game management has been consistently poor for a while and it’s a bit more of an unpopular opinion on here - just wanted to see what others thought on whether we are being pragmatic enough. Not sure there would be any great debate if I jumped on here and said Muric should have stayed on his line

I completely understand - I have never seen Omari play as a right back.

The shape is much the same in and out of possession, but we defend in a 4-4-2 which many teams do now, and we did last year.

We have made alterations though, most notably how aggressive and high we press, we have sacrificed that for a more mid/low block - presumably with the fear being PL players would pick apart a high press.

So just moving the goalposts then as you've realized you're evidently wrong.

No? Just saying our standard shape is a 4231, and i’ve never seen Omari who regularly plays right wing play right back like you are suggesting happens all the time

It also makes us extremely predictable.

Teams have countered us by going 5 at the back too

A weakness of the system is an ability to adapt to it, we could switch to the 541 with overlapping centre backs, which isn't a wild switch from that 4231 imho

That isn't a huge swap but does pack another player at the back you have to pass through

Alcohol is the answer but I can't remember the question!

McK should have gone to Brighton and we sign Hürzeler in an ideal world

(McK probably took one look at the Brighton dressing room with players speaking a multitude of languages and decided it was not for him)

Who will come in for McKenna? He will be on shortlists but is he going to be the top choice for anyone in the PL?
