Screw the doom and gloom. Things to LOOK FORWARD to about the championship… 11:19 - Apr 2 with 1716 viewsMatt_Netherlands

Easy to say it now, but it really is a great league. What are people most looking forward to? (Other than winning a few games…)

- More regular games and no three week gaps without any matches

- More regular midweek games and games under the lights

- Playing that lot up the road

- Not having to give away fans 3,000 tickets

- Being able to enjoy watching Match of The Day again

- Having Town TV back again for when ‘overseas’

- Unpredictable games and anyone being able to beat anyone

- No more premier league anthem before games

- Pundits and reporters who actually understand the clubs and are knowledgeable about teams outside of the top six

- Having hope.

As a supporter its a much better league tbh, and a more even playing field as you say. Its not much of a spectacle in the Premier League when we quite literally could go to Anfield 50 times and maybe win once.

More games, less breaks in the season, the ridiculous winter schedule. It's April and we've had 5 home league games so far this year, 3 of which Saturday 3pm. Sort of feels like our season died before it really got going.

As you say far too many breaks in between games. Town haven't been that brilliant after these international breaks. It also becomes so predictable and boring losing virtually every game. We all knew it wouldn't be easy, but I think it has been a lot harder than we imagined and that applies to the management as well. It's all very well some of the experts on this forum saying the wrong players were bought and McKenna has made mistakes. Maybe, both are true. But we don't know who Town went in for. How many turned us down ? we know of one or two. The injury list has been horrendous and quite a few of the players have struggled. Not just the new recruits but also players like Davis and Hutchinson. Phillips has been largely an expensive disappointment as I would think he was regarded as being the player to rotate with Morsy. I don't say that I don't want Town in the Premier League but I want to see us compete and currently that looks some way off. Somehow the system needs to change. We cannot have this situation where three teams promoted are the three demoted season after season. Somehow there needs to be a way of allowing new clubs into the Prem more leeway to spend without breaking the fair play rules. The gulf between and the upgrades required are far too great.

More games and more wins. Strip everything down to basics and all every fan wants is to see their team winning and playing well. When that's not happening it's easy to find annoyance in plenty of other things that would get forgotten/not cared about if we were picking up 3 point on the regular.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

PL been a disappointment, and not just because of our performance, I probably would have enjoyed it more had we been winning more, but it still feels all a but "plastic fantastic".

It's a bit like Dubai, all very glitzy and shiny but lacks real substance when you spend any length of time there and you get whet you pay for.

In the PL you 100% seem to get what you pay for, as demonstrated by Forest who made a conscious choice to break the rules, gambled with the points deduction and came up smelling of roses (they have built a solid team which plays to their player strengths admittedly).

The gap between the have and have nots is getting ever wider, and it will be very interesting to see how the promoted sides this year get on next season - if they face the same struggle, we can pretty much write off promotion / relegation as a concept going forward.

The other thing with the PL which really annoys me is the so called dark arts or gamesmanship - call it what you want but it is just basically cheating, and it seems to me that the level of acting and timewasting in the PL is getting far worse. Ironically means we pay more for a product that at times is inferior in what it delivers.

I'm not disappointed to face a return to the Championship when it comes.

Agreed! Although I wonder how long that will last for.

There’s something weirdly satisfying about a whole stadium in uproar at seething at a shocker of a decision, communally hurling abuse at the officials. Obviously we hate mistakes when they go against us, but we’ve had some shockers this year even with VAR.

Biggest thing for me is not having enough games. We've had regular 2 and 3 week breaks, it feels we're forever on the summer break. Bring on the Sat/Tues/Sat again. Marvellous.

No VAR,

Other than that:
- Night games (especially away games) are a pain in the arse.
- The pundits still talk rubbish.

Genuines I'm looking forward to the game tonight. I know we aren't quite at the level but I've waited a long old time to see us in this league and winning games up here is no joke, as we can all attest by now. I'm geared up (in a manner of speaking) for one or two more before the season's out and will enjoy those if they come. And every time we lose, I look down on (in a manner speaking) those eighteen or so Championship teams with a five percent chance of promotion each year and remind myself that this isn't so bad after all. We're seeing good football, we're not in bad company at the bottom, higher-brow company than we've known for the past two decades anyway, and yes lots to look forward to next season in a fun league.

A few points I would argue against, some of it is just recent bias from 23/24.

We were in the championship for decades (well nearly two of them) and have only had about 3 decent seasons. The others were awful and painful.

I don't want Town TV back it's bloody expensive. Peacock is about a $10 a month for every EPL game.

Paramount + in the states will cover most Ipswich games live anyway, not sure what EFL coverage is like in other countries.

When was the last time you enjoyed Norwich game (although that should change next year!).

There was endless threads on here about hating pundits last year as well.

Next year should be fun as a parachute club but remember what the prize is, please don't tell me you want to lose in the playoffs or something.

The prem would be a much more enjoyable league with a more competitive team, something we’ll hopefully have the next time we’re here.

Another plus about going down is we’ll be going down with an excellent Championship level squad, even with some movement out
