Oh god, don’t go to Blackpool. Makes Yarmouth look like St Tropez and that takes some doing.

South coast is lovely - plenty to do and lots of choice. I like the north Kent coast too - Whitstable etc.

I guess it depends what you like doing. If it’s outdoorsy stuff, Lake District and Peak District are spectacular and the Yorkshire Dales are nice too. Further up, York and the area around are good for a few days. Lots to do.

How tied in are you staying in England? I would recommend Tenby in South Wales - has a nice beach, can go on boat cruises, has some nice places to eat and is surrounded by pretty countryside with places of historical interest. And also has some nice pubs as well.

Northumberland coast.

Craster for some smoked kippers
Bamburgh for the castle and the sand dunes
Warkworth and Alnmouth beaches
Alnwick for Barters books, the castle and the gardens
Lindisfarne for a trip around the island and then onto see some puffins

Absolutely perfect way to spend time in the UK

Never been to that part of the world other than through it or to Newcastle with work. It looks lovely. Great history and scenery - it’s on the to do list.

As for the West Country, Cotswolds are great, I like Bristol, not least because the SS Great Britain is there. Devon and Cornwall are lovely, though driving can be a bit arduous down that way. My parents lived in Torbay for a few years and there’s plenty of things to like. It’s not all Fawlty Towers.

Kielder forest for the UK's first dark sky park.

Fabulous night sky visible there.

Absolutely!

Have camped at Kielder a few times and then visited the pub in Kielder village. Love that there's no phone signal at all, so you can just completely switch off

Forestry England have an arts trail that goes all the way around Kielder reservoir which is cracking. Albeit 26miles all the way around!

So if you like city stuff, Edinburgh, Oxford or Cardiff.

For outside stuff, all have nice bits on their doorstep too.

If you want to hit the town proper, Newcastle although that may be a bit too much if you're getting on :-)

North Pennines. Wild and beautiful. High cup Nick is a highlight.

Solway Firth is really nice.

Personal favourite is Aviemore and Cairngorms.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

Staithes in North Yorkshire is the best place in the world - although I have to admit that there are a few places in the world that I have not visited.

Yeah, love it!

Hard to chose between Staithes or Robin Hoods Bay though. Also Sandsend is lovely. Great seafood cottage place doing takeaway street food style seafood, and the Yorkshire coasts only seafood restaurant in the Michelin guide at Estbek House

Walk the Cleveland Way and then you take in Staithes and Robin Hood's Bay (as well as Saltburn, Whtby and Filey too.)

We love Yorkshire. Plenty of variety, cities for shopping, beaches for ice cream, dales for walks. Caters for everybody
