What is going on with the weather then? 20:17 - Jun 30 with 1608 views | Dubtractor | Multiple days with the temperature over 30 degrees in June. Barely any rain in 3 months - all the streams near me are bone dry. This isn't normal at all! My lawn has been mostly dead for weeks now, the veg patch only surviving as I'm watering it 2 or 3 times a week. I can only assume farmers are having real concerns about the crops they are going to get this year too. As far as I can see there has been minimal (if any) coverage of how weird the weather has been. Anyone else bothered by this sort of thing?

What is going on with the weather then? on 20:22 - Jun 30 with 1374 views | BloomBlue | Starting to look like the summer of 1976, climate change was really bad that year. On a positive note, the summers of 77 & 78 were wetter than normal, so that will probably happen again.
What is going on with the weather then? on 20:30 - Jun 30 with 1316 views | Bigalhunter | With Trump being the biggest denier of climate change I assume every government that’s cosying up for some crumbs of relief from his tariff buffet table, don’t want it brought up at the present time. Keep supporting the Israeli genocide, quietly tut at Russia and hopefully no one will notice their grass has turned to straw and their buttes are empty…

"Climate change was really bad that year" is quite the oxymoron. But I enjoyed your analysis!

What is going on with the weather then? on 20:34 - Jun 30 with 1276 views | Sarge | To be honest I haven’t expected any real coverage because this is what I expect from summers now. I’m too young to remember the summers of the 60/70/80/90/00s so heatwaves and grass turned to straw is really all I can remember. I have had to keep reminding myself it’s only June though.

I mean, you can make silly comments if you want, but if you look at the trend line for the various charts for Summer temperatures in the UK it tells a pretty stark story. (change the period covered in the drop down menu) https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/research/climate/maps-and-data/uk-temperature-rainf Yes, 1976 was hot, as you old timers constantly like to remind us, but it was also a bit of an anomaly. What is going on with the weather then? on 21:03 - Jun 30 with 1030 views | vapour_trail | I flew back into Stansted yesterday. Not a lot of green down there as I peered out of my window at Sussex on the way back in, a lot of brown fields, and it’s still June. This is the future though. No rain and no joking about women drivers. World has gone to sh1t.

Forty degrees in Girona. Constantly seeking out shade and a light breeze.

Usually try and run 5k 2 or 3 times a week after work / at weekends, but missed a week as I was on holiday (surfing, so still exercise), then injured my ankle, then was away with work and now it’s too blooming hot.

As someone who tries to run throughout the summer in Spain, you just have to slow right down,my run this morning 33c at 9.30am was nearly 2 minutes per mile slower than normal. It's still a good workout, your HR will be a good 10-15% higher than normal

I running easier in the heat but do throw in say 2 minutes at 5k pace to really try to briefly suffer. Heat training is meant to be amazing for cardiovascular efficiency.

Climate change is going to affect the UK in different ways in each season. Modelling seems to indicate hot and dry summers like we are starting to see but the winter is predicted to be warmer but with more rain and more extreme rain events. With some engineering expenditure the government could look to capture that excess of water for use in the summer but I guess this is unlikely. SB

It was high 30s low 40s a couple of years ago wasn’t it? 2021 or 2022? I remember going outside and it feeling like an oven and being on the tube and wondering how I was still alive, but this year so far at least I haven’t felt the heat all that much, it’s not had any real effect on my comfort or sleep.

That would require a responsible political establishment planning and acting on behalf of the country beyond the short term news cycle, let alone beyond a term of parliament or two.

What is going on with the weather then? on 01:33 - Jul 1 with 463 views | quirkie | Just for balance, I live in West Cornwall, we have not had a day over 24c this year so far and half the year now gone, and the last two so called heatwaves the South East has had have not materialised this far west, in fact most days have been cloudy with Cornish mizzle. I do feel sorry for the folks zooming down the M5 to the beaches thinking they are going to get these end of the world heatwaves with a nice paddle in the sea and a 99. Saying that still July and August to go, so may get a sniff of one of these things at some point for a day or two, then back to 15c and below temps for 360 days of the year.

I am down to a butt and a half now,I am however taking fresh tap water to my birdbaths I have four of those, and one small bowl of water for my hedgehog and squirrel that frequent my garden.

Whilst this is obviously a touch facetious, I have long held the view that 'fixing' this can't be down to individuals (though it can help), but can only really be done by joined up thinking and policy from global governments. We're fooked, aren't we?

So you're saying we should all move to Cornwall? I hear the locals are hugely welcoming of outsiders moving in..... In all seriousness, I'm not sure to what extent what we're seeing in Suffolk is being repeated elsewhere, but I've not known a spring as dry as we've had here in my adult life.
