Weren’t there more games the year before…..So they may have made more than they would otherwise have done, but if so it is marginal and definitely not worth the hassle.

As you say it's misleading, there's four extra home games in the Championship

Alcohol is the answer but I can't remember the question!

That's if you work on the assumption that the primary aim was to make more money.

My understanding was that there was a degree of seeking to reduce matchday congestion as well.

If you believe that, they really have sold their lies to you. It was always about more revenue.

Looks like fewer cars but more money
Average stays are now 514.25 x 15 =7,713.75
Compared to 747.42 x 5.90 =4,409.778
Even if people paid the whole day price previously 747.42 x 7 =5,231.94

Poll: Your favourite thing about THAT goal?

That’s bad reporting demonstrating little analysis of the actual underlying trends and true financial impact.

514 cars at £15 is £7,710, this is the avg car usage and cost from period analyzed in PL season.

747 cars at £7.50 is £5,602, this is avg car usage and cost from same period in prior year.

While car park usage has dropped by 31% like for like average return is in fact up by 37%.

The only reason overall costs were down is the simple detail of 17% less home matches in a PL season vs EFL. The lower revenue of £2K is actually a significant improvement as a 17% reduction on 23-24 revenue based in less matches would have been up to maybe around £9.5k.

Pretty basic economics people.

No, it was done as the council knew that with less games in the PL there would be a significant reduction in revenue, and they calculated that even if matchday usage fell with a £15 cost, it would not drop enough vs the loss of 4 matchdays (23 in Champ vs 19 in PL).

Which is also a perfectly legitimate reason.

Local authorities have a moral and legal obligation to make the best possible use of their financial resources. The fact that they charged so much below the going rate for so long is, to my mind, a far bigger issue.

I think there’s more to it than reported, unless the usage and income figures supplied in the FOI are simply wrong and unrelated for some reason. The overall money made figures reported aren’t a result of usage x cost. They’re miles out, so maybe there’s lots of special rates (are blue badge or motorcycles much lower rates, for example?).

only if you assume the objective is to make more money.

and not reduce congestion and queuing around Portman Road on match days, which reduces pollution in the area.

or to try to encourage people to choose other forms of transport on matchdays

because of course if the car park was free to park, it would be full all the time and theyd make even less money...so money isnt really the point here, which alot of people seem to miss.

Money is exactly the point.

If it was pollution or other transport forms, why not invest in a better more frequent park and ride?

Run cheaper public transport?

This was solely about raising more money.

Interesting they aren't dropping the cost at all now we're relegated. Like all councils, they are run abysmally, especially economically: how many times do you see the same job done twice or even 3 times, and that's before we talk about Icelandic banks

Why would they drop the price for relegation?

More games: 60 quid more for anyone parking there this season for every game.
I personally don't park there (I tend to walk from the top of Christchurch Park), but there are plenty of older folk - who don't qualify for a Blue badge - who park there out of necessity.

They made £2k less from a season with considerably less games - clearly the price increase does make more money as everyone else that’s responded on the thread seems to have grasped

The Borough don't run the Park and Ride, which would be the problem there

But the figures in the article work on takings per match, so how is that misleading?!

Before price increase = £56,797.02
After price increase = £54,676.89

It’s been a long time since I did any formal maths, but to me that looks like they made more money before the increase.

Unless they physically counted out 2,000 pound coins, "less" is correct.
