What a position to be in. And to honest I will be surprised if 83 isn’t enough, so 8 more points.

I think winning Tuesday is massively important.

Need to get the three points to properly establish our second place and out pressure on Millwall and Boro.

If we do then I think we are 90% there and we will win on Sunday.

Tuesday is massively massive. Anyone talking of that game as a free hit is insane. It’s massive.

Win that and if Saints don’t beat Blackburn then they’re likely out of the equation for autos. Then take care of Boro and put a bow on this season.

Boro are done, I don’t think Millwall will win 4 in a row but there is a world that Southampton get 6 points before 5pm next Saturday.

They’ve got to lose at some point surely. But then so have we really.

Gah. I’m just trying to be relaxed and still take in yesterday but now I’ve thought about it I’ve got sweaty palms.

Have they? I just think people need to look at where the actual threat is;

-Millwall can score 85 points (1 win in 5 and look knackard)

-Boro can score 84 points (2 wins in 11, confidence shot)

-Southampton can score 84 points (undefeated in 18, 6 wins in a row, parachute squad)

Of course we can score 93, undefeated in 9 and that includes 6 wins so firm favorites. We could really do with Southampton dropping ANY points though to make it all a lot more breezy. Win Tuesday and it’s another game closer whatever they do and I really think we will get more than 84 if we take at least 4 from the next 6.

Must win game Tuesday, But, always remember this is a bonkers league. Not Cov drawing with Wednesday. That does not bode well for their PL season.

I hope we can refocus quickly after the emotion and euphoria of yesterday. McKenna is the man for the job when it comes to those things. Pompey have traveled and had their backs to wall for 96 minutes yesterday defending so hopefully they’ll be fairly exhausted. Never an easy place to go but if we win, it will be another huge step.

I genuinely think if get 3 points at FP we’d almost be there, essentially it would be 2 wins in 5 needed after that.

Sort of agree with this.

Being rational, Southampton shouldn't really be a threat, given the number of games left and points difference but....... They are the only team who realistically CAN be a threat. And we still have to play them.

Hopefully we take care of business in the next 4, and the game against them ends up being a dead rubber.

Yeah 3 wins in 4 and it’s irrelevant that game whatever they do beforehand.

Be lovely if Blackburn or Swansea could change their points possible total to 82 though. Second best scenario to making that Southampton game a dead rubber is going into the game on at least 78 points so they can’t overtake over us. Thus knowing we just have to win last day to be above them even if they beat us.

Yes, I do have sports anxiety but it feels a crucial year for us to go up.

Not asking me, but.

No, I think they will probably get relegated, but is entirely unrelated to their result yesterday. That was just a one off result against a team who park the bus, it happens.

Only thing I'd say is, I don't know what Coventry's ownership and finances are, and their willingness to spend (or not) may be the deciding factor.

Agree … folk have been talking about our games in hand as being a huge advantage for weeks now. So, pretty important we win the first one … against let’s be honest, pretty poor opposition. I watched the Middlesboro v Portsmouth highlights and goodness .. how on earth Pompey won that!

We can afford to lose though. I think if any of the other three drop another point they are completely done. They have no margin for error. Southampton have the other small task of a semi final vs Man City at Wembley to play amongst it all too. They could win 10 on the bounce but how often has that been done in this league?

Has the Saints - Man City FA Cup game been definitively marked as the Saturday game then? So no chance our Tuesday match against them mines to Weds?

I do think this is advantageous for us; saints effectively play 2 games a week- 9 games in 29 days between April 4th and May 2nd. And they can’t afford to rest players in either competition. I’ll be very very impressed if they keep getting winning.

I disagree with this logic. Coventry had 2 in 7 before winning 6 in a row. Millwall have won 4 games in a row after winning 1 in 5 previously. Boro have also done this. Boro have also won 6 in a row following 1 point in 4 games.

Point is, good can follow bad form and with their respective points totals they are all a threat until they aren't.

I watched the whole game and Portsmouth were awful. Boro just can't finish at th moment. A team that could take its chances would have won that game 3 or 4-0.

Boro's conversion stats from recent games are incredibly poor - they are creating loads of chances but haven't been putting them away. They badly lack a finisher.

Southampton are a parachute squad that have just won 14 of their last 17 games and drawn the other 3. They’re the main ones to be concerned about.

I understood your original point and I'm aware of Southampton's form. I stated I disagreed, repeating it doesn't change that logically good form follows poor form and any of the teams, with points in the bag, are capable of winning 4 games in a row, regardless of their current form.

No, I disagree. Millwall are the main threat, as they are heavy favourites to win each game they have left. Plus we can't take points off them any more unlike Saints and Boro.

Saints are a threat but are much further back, have more games to play than Millwall and the distraction of a huge FA cup semi final

Keep eyes out for Millwall, they're the ones to be wary of, no matter how people are writing them off because they are a small team.

But that’s where we have the edge in being largely consistent over most of the season. We haven’t gone on bad runs and haven’t gone on outstanding WWWWW kind of runs. We just keep doing our thing and picking up points. That should see us home.
